Grandma, you arent very good. But I guess you dont get as much practice as I do. Said my 7-year-old nephew to my mom as they shot baskets.
Davids comment was so true. If you want to be good at something it takes practice. Also you must aim at things in your reach. If David, at the age of 7, had an official size basketball rim to shoot at he wouldnt have made any baskets and eventually he would get discouraged and quit. But since the basket was at a level he could make, he felt good about himself and the sport of basketball. The rim was an achievable goal. If you are trying to learn something new, it helps if you have an example to follow. I wasnt a very good cook when Tom and I were first married. But I watched my mom, Toms mom and my Aunt Jane cook. My Aunt Jane came down to our home one day soon after we were married. I was trying to make a pie crust. My aunt knew exactly the right tricks to help me make a mouth-watering crust. I really enjoyed making pies and with practice became a good pie maker. Making pies was a way I could show creativity and feel good about myself. It was an achievable goal for me and became a source of income selling about 400 pies through my dads grocery store.
Sometimes the only thing that is holding people back in learning or achieving goals is their lack of faith, or faith in the wrong things. If faith is in the wrong things, learning and goals may never be in reach. But if your faith is in Christ, there is nothing you cant do! Look what Christ did with just ordinary fishermen. Peter even walked on water because he had faith in Christ. Paul tells us in Philippians 4:11-12, Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need.
Learn whom the man, Jesus Christ, was. Read the stories in the Bible about his time on earth. You will find out that he is still here and he can help you through anything big or small. Take Him as your own personal Savior and reap the harvest He alone can give you. He is our example.
Romans 10:9-10, If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth at you are saved.
