Awwww, danke schön, Soda! That makes me really happy!

Now, I'm not going to attempt more German right at this moment because it is quite early in the morning, and then I think it would be really bad, haha.

I wanted to learn German because the largest portion of my family's ancestry is German. We even have some sort of family tree book but it's all in German so no one can understand it...yet. Also, I think German is lovely-sounding, and it's much easier for me to pronounce than French.

Lol *runs aways embarassed*

Woher kommst du in Holland?

(Ignore mistakes... just learning... lol )

Quite awesome. i am actually studying German in college, amoung other languages. I used to speak it when I was very young, but went so many years without it that I forgot, so I am picking up the ball again.
I was fluent when I was a kid, when we left Stuttgart in 1962 I never used it again. I want to learn it as well. Do you think I can pick it up from one of those teach yourself books, or should I go ahead and take a class at the local community college?

i think taking classes is always better than just a book. though nowadays those books are getting better and better. dunno about the costs. maybe a book is cheaper then the course. but from my point of view it's better to take classes. i tried to learn spanish from a book. without success. then i took a course at college and it was 1000 times better than the book coz my teacher was a native speaker and i took this course together with 3 friends of mine.

meine Schwester liiieeeebt Holland

I would agree with schaf....taking a course is always better than just having a book cause you've got someone who can actually speak the language, correct your mistakes and show you what you did wrong...

and welcome to the German forum

be blessed <><

yea.. same here..

first study with books and learn vocabulary, use it as much as you can in class and outside and let them show you how to do it the right way... and then... go and visit a country where you'll be surounded by native speakers!

... and of course, practice as much as you can here on CF

I always do my best to listen to the German when we ever go to Oberhausen to go shopping (Centr0, the largest shopping mall in Europe!! )... but I'm always too scared to say something in German. I just go blank and then I'm not sure if I should speak German, English, or Dutch...

you can imagine I look like a complete fool.

LOL!
