Instead of wasting my time with photos of women like a pervert, I'm actually going to put my time to good use and learn a new language.

Does anyone have any advice or routine in learning a new foreign language?

I'm trying to learn French. My cousin has also been learning French. She advised some app that I might look into. Otherwise, I've been looking through local groups of French learners, some of which are headed by French tutors. I also got a library card and found some books on learning French.

I am learning Spanish. First, I got a Spanish Bible I already know verses in English; so I can see what a corresponding Spanish verse is saying, and how it is worded in Spanish.

You might find out which dictionary is being used by junior or senior high school French classes near you. Their dictionary could work out for your level, too.

For relating with people, I would say learn the basics, like pronunciation and vocabulary. And be like a baby, just be patient and get what you get. And see if anything helps; online there are likely a variety of websites where you can look up word meanings and explanations of the differences that words are used for. Learn things you can say to love people.

You could get practice listening to French, by looking up a Bible chapter in Youtube where a reader is going through God's word in French.

And Biblegateway has French translations; it looks like two of these are in audio, and you can set the reader at a reduced speed so you can more easily hear the words and how they are pronounced.

Also, Google Translate will give you English for French and French for English, plus you can play it and hear it pronunced by some kind of a computer production, I think.

I've been learning Japanese through Duolingo. But nothing beats true immersion in the language if you want to become proficient.

Yes, my cousin suggested Duolingo. I might try it.

I was also conaidering the bible idea too. I have to make sure that I get a bible that's not in Old French though. I should try for a modern French bible or modern translation.

It didnt take me long to learn English. As soon as my owner started to give me treats i found it rather easy!

Duolingo is good to learn words, some phrases, and some basics; but don't expect to become a fluent French speaker with it.

I tried it last year for a few months (to learn French as well,) and it did give me some nice foundation, but I think I will need to take a real course or maybe even go to school to learn it properly.

I learned English as a kid listening to music and watching movies; so if you do try to learn French, try French movies and music, they help a lot.

Listen! Listen! Listen! Reading isn't enough. You need to listen to pick it up. Watch TV in the language, listen to music in the language. There's accents, style, speed, etc. that isn't picked up just reading it.

Also pick up some books written in the language. Like children's books at first. Then YA novels, then novels. That's how the language is used in print, not textbooks.

You can go on YouTube and find something that is interesting to you, in French, and press the closed caption on the bottom, then you can hear it and see the words and pause and rerun and listen and practice.

You can search with French words so you get a French video.

Possibly you can find free children's shows with simpler language, and news and nature documentaries and other things.​

Learning language and learning culture go hand in hand.

The French have a different level of acceptance for nudity in their culture.

Nothing against learning French, but don't be surprised if this comes full circle.

100% right! I mostly learn through hearing, and without hearing the language, we can never learn how to pronounce the words or use the right fluency etc
