Laptop Woes

So, I bought a new laptop from Gateway, their 200x model with centrino and a 1.5ghz Pentium M, 512mb ram cd burner, the works. It's slim and sleek, and very lightweight. However today I was informed that my order was delayed, and I have begun to question the quality of the laptop I will be receiving. I ordered it on April 18th, and will not be receiving it till May 10th now.

Have I made a mistake in ordering a gateway? Should I go with another thin/light laptop from another company? I would like to be able to install Linux on it with as little trouble as possible, although this isn't totally necessary I'd love it like that.

To sum it up, could someone recommend an alternative thin/light laptop with a sticker price under $1600? That $1600 mark is absolute, I really might not even consider something that comes in right at $1600.

I did, but after a sharp tounge lashing the gateway reps somehow managed to get my order out the door today, it should be here by next monday at the latest, this saturday at the earliest.

Get an Apple, or an Ibm laptop; they would be satisfied with your 1600 dollars and repay you with a ticket to laptopia -apple and ibm or tried and true. And if you want to get more bang for your buck, and don't mind sacrificing quality for a pricetag, you might want to consider Dell.

With the help of paypal, I myself just purchased a USED Ibm laptop. It should arrive, via UPS, at my doorstep on May 6th. I expect great things...for years to come.

I'm not an OSX person, but I love linux. Anyway my Gateway laptop is going to be here tomorrow. Thanks for all your input. IBM's laptops are ugly heh. Gateway seems to have their stuff down at the moment.
