  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It has been said that "curiosity kills the cat", but I'm taking the risk, once again, with yet another attempt to satisfy my hunger for hearing different opinions...

Some time back, I was doing some casual Web-browsing, and ran across a site called Landover Baptist. Thinking, at first, that it was just an ultra-legalistic and ultra-strict church, I clicked onto it to see what else was there. But reading more, it turned out that it was meant to be a joke (and some of the "humor" is pretty warped - and even blasphemous in parts - if you ask me). Then I looked up Landover Baptist on Wikipedia, and it appears that the site was created by a disgruntled atheist who undoubtedly had some sort of sour experience with Christians, and wrote them all off because of such an experience.

My questions are: Who here has heard of this Website, and what are your impressions of it?

I hope no one is offended at my starting this thread; I'm just wondering, that's all.

I looked at it once and it is disgusting so I will never ever look at it again and I suggest you do the same and stay away.

That's what I think, too. They're making it sound like Christians are racist and intolerant bigots who hate everything and everybody. I mean, it's bad enough that there are actually real organizations calling themselves "Christian" that are somewhat like that. Another way Christians are made to look bad.

Honestly, I think this person might just be an extremely sad (and undoubtedly bored) person who needs a lot of prayer.

I have heard of this site, just like you, and it does look like a joke to me, although it sounds real and it's seems too elaborated to be a simple prank.
Please read these posts on their forum, under the thread "False religions and Cults"/"Portuguese people, lazy, rude, ugly, drug selling catlics"
(sorry, can't post a link)

I am portuguese, so you can make an ideia of my astonishment reading that!!!
How much byased and how much obnoxious can one get?
The most amazing thing is that the senior pastor considers ALL portuguese people to be prone to gay-rape men...
If this is a practical joke, the author has a very serious mental problem...

Did a little research (very little) and discovered a WikiPedia article (normally not a source I believe or even seek out) but the opening paragraph is interesting:

"The site was created by Chris Harper, who obtained his Master's Degree in English Literature from George Mason University in 1993 after being expelled from Liberty University (founded by Jerry Falwell) in 1989 for producing a satirical radio show which Liberty's administration found offensive ... Harper frequently appears at atheist conventions playing the character of 'Pastor Deacon Fred Smith'. The website is owned by a company called Americhrist, Ltd."

Additionally, there is this:

OBJECTIVE: Landover Baptist Shutdown

The "objective" of Objective Ministries is to shut down the Landover site. The site itself is pretty over the top as far as parody goes. Harper could be more effective if he didn't go so far out in left field. Baptists and other denominations could use a little "tweaking" of the nose every now and then. This is more than that. In fact, occasionally it's obscene. Objective Ministries is a bit over the top itself, but maybe it's on the right track.
