Say it isn't so!!

Finally confirmed is what I've known for months by hardcore L4D fans such as myself. In spring 2010 is a new full-length campaign called "The Passing" where the new 4 survivors meet the old 4 survivors. Introduced in the level will also be a new melee weapon, new shooting weapon, and new uncommon infected. The level will be available in vs, scavange, and survival as well as a new, unnannounced, super duper secret mode that is not a vs mode but a coopertive mode. Wh00t!

Bad news... It doesn't look like you can play as the original L4D survivors, only play as the L4D2 survivors and meet them and join them in a mission.

L4D2 would be way more fun for me if I could play as the L4D people. I just enjoyed them so much more.

Oh, and how did L4D fans know this was the case months ago, even before L4D2 was released?

Because L4D is listed on imdb.com along with the names of the voice actors and IMDB is updated by the talent's agents to reflect their work. Back in August of 09 the voice talent for Bill and Zoey popped up with a credit to them for voicing Bill and Zoey for L4D2. Whoops for Valve. LoL!

Actually checking imdb.com for video game news is really a sneaky way of getting a lot of information about games before it is formally released. I do it constantly.

Don't fault me for not posting links, I'm not able to do so yet. However you can get all the info as well as the press release from Steam as well as Game Informer and of course IMDB.com. In another 10 posts I promise I'll be better about giving you links.

Honestly I like L4D more than L4D2 for just that reason. The levels are fun... Hard Rain is ~*AmAzInG*~ and the creativity used in the levels for this game is oh-so wonderful. But I actually find the game too hard. On normal mode it's almost impossible and I haven't even tried it at the highest level. I bet it's darn near impossible. I find the weapons to be confusing and not that great, but the new fun little gizmos like bile viles are fun. Love, love, love what they did with the witch and the new infected... Hate, hate, hate her new crying. Doesn't sound right to me. I feel like the original L4D was more of a linear arcade game, whereas this one is still a linear arcade game but it's got so many of those aspects that you see in your typical FPS that I get worried it's flirting a little too much with the CoD style of gaming, which I can't stand.

I agree what you say about the characters. It's weird that on a whole they were less developed and explored, but felt like they had more depth than this new crew. But Ellis is funny. I love some of the stories he tells in the safehouse... "I've got a story for you guys... It's not so much a funny ha-ha story, more of a learnin' style story..."

I think if they wove the old characters in the game or gave you the option to play them and clarified the weapons a bit, L4D2 would be pretty much the perfect game. Maybe they will, who knows... Pretty much everybody I hear talk about the game all agree pretty much across the board that the old crew is superior to the new one.
