I just posted in the prayer forum about this, but I am wondering if anyone here has ever heard of this and/or have any idea what this could mean:

My son and I came home from our afternoon walk to find three pocket knives planted in our front yard. We are not well liked in our neighborhood as we are from CA and we now live in a very small Midwest town. I called the police, they came and collected the knives and said they will patrol our street more frequently.

I am just feeling really uncomfortable. We have a security system in our home and my husband is well trained in MMA, etc. but I still just feel uneasy.

Has anyone ever heard of someone doing this? If so, what does this mean?

Pray...

God knows who did it.

Pray for whoever did it and ask God to come into their lives
and to bring them to salvation in Christ.

Pray and ask God to protect you and your family.

Pray and ask God to deliver whoever put the knives on
your lawn from evil or any evil intent against your family.

Prayer is power....

I will pray for you but it's so strange...

Why are you not liked in your neighborhood?

EDIT: Are there only three people in your home? You, son, and husband?

We have been told by several local people that Californians are not welcome here. I don't know if that has anything to do with the knives...

Yes, there are three people in our home.

All I can say is be on guard. Be strong, and rely on the Lord to give your strength and courage. Ask Him to protect you guys and don't be afraid, because it's all Satan's trap.

Anyway, I was just wondering about how many people there are in your house because strangely, there's three knives in the front yard and three people in your household....

I personally wouldn't get too worked up about it.
Definitely lock up and be safe as usual, but being a devout child of God, you've got the best watchkeeper anyone could ask for!
I'm sure it is very stirring, do your best to relax.

Were they planted blade side up or down ?

Were they close together ? in a row? near the road ? the house ? the walkway ?

What size ? Did they look like cheap ones ? or good quality ? New ? or old ?

Can't see anyone leaving their valued knives behind for a prank's sake.

If the blades are down someone(s) suggesting they feel the desire to try and scare regarding the idea of a possible attack.

If the blades are facing up it suggests a desire to intimidate over dangers nearby which one may stumble upon, if they don't watch out.

Either way, if someone was really planning something extreme they probably wouldn't want to tip their hand and leave evidence behind.

It's likely somewhat of a sadistic prank, meant mainly to cause fear/worry.

You might want to install strategically located, motion activated, video cameras - if the threat seems like it's an ongoing one.

Also consider if there's anything you might do to make your selves "fit in" better.

And pray as has been mentioned already.

Thank you for your replies. I am praying and will continue to...I appreciate the prayers offered so much!

wayfaring man - The knives were blade down clustered together. They were in the middle of the yard which is good size. They were new. I don't know a lot about pocket knives, but the officer that came to the house said the same thing about it being odd that someone would place expensive knives in our yard...so I guess they weren't cheap.

My husband and I called our security company to have cameras installed. I am home with my son all day and I need that peace of mind.

As far as fitting in better I can see that we need to make a better effort. I tend to keep to myself and my son is home schooled so we don't mingle a lot. My husband manages a large firm in the nearest city so he does not make a lot of friends either.

If you are home all day then you should probably introduce yourself and your son to the neighbors.
Good idea...
Meet the neighbors and perhaps share what has happened and ask them
to keep their eyes open for anything suspicious...

I would say that your neighbors would be more than willing to help you.

After all no one likes to be messed with so your neighbors will appreciate
the situation and keep their eyes on the look out for unusual situations.

Don't assume your neighbors are all against you because
you are from California...that is crazy talk...

Assume that your neighbors would help you as you would be willing
to help them if the shoe was on the other foot.

Do you have a firearm in the house? MMA is awesome, but long distance self defense is superior.

Follow up with the police as to any fingerprints or DNA that may have been found on the knives in question. Stay on top of this and make sure they're taking it seriously.
Someone is sending you a message, even if it's just to mess with your nerves.

The only symbolism I can think of, with regard to three knives, is that of the three Knives emblem of Saint Bartholomew, who was skinned alive.
Which is why, given the news carries stories about home invasions, I ask about a firearm in the house.

 May the love and protection of Christ cover you and your family. :amen:

I would think that it's probably neighborhood kids, or teenagers. If it is - they are just acting out the stupid things that their parents are saying. My suggestion is to let it go. Unless it repeats itself ... it's just a dumb incident. Your husband has good training and there should be no real danger at this stage. You are probably going thru a long period of "acceptance" into the local community. Welcome to "small town USA". Nobody said these people had open minds.

Report any more incidents to the police.
Pray about it - only be concerned if things get worse.
You may experience some other stupid stuff - like minor vandalism - before this gets better. Try to keep an upbeat attitude and be good Christians to all your neighbors. It should blow over.

blessings,
Gideon123

Grrrrr....I just typed out a long post with replies and my computer froze up and it was lost. I will do my best to sum it up...

I agree we need to get to know the neighbors. I am an introvert, so I will have to push myself, but I can see the necessity.

We do have guns. I just need to be trained how to use them. Up 'til now I have been very anti-gun, but now I am seeing the necessity of that as well.

I will follow up with the police.

I appreciate the thoughts and prayers so much. I really do.

Wow, I would say that was a way of intimidation for sure. I would be praying for those who did this.

I am praying for those who did this. Thank you.

Today sometime while we were home someone knocked our trash cans over and spread trash everywhere. We don't have security cameras up yet and I didn't hear anything my dog didn't even bark. Anyway, we are continuing to pray and to take actions that will prevent this kind of behavior.

Also today my son and I went to our two neighbors homes (one wasn't home) and the other we talked to briefly about what happened. They seemed genuinely concerned and said they will keep a look out as well.

I just appreciate the prayers and suggestions from all of you. Thank you.

What kind of dog do you have? A good guard do, would be a really good safety measure as well, provided that the dog was safe for your son.

We have a beagle that is my son's pet. Hardly a guard dog, but she has a very loud bark! At this point I wouldn't want another dog because of my son... he has Asperger's and we have to be really careful with him around animals as sometimes he has a hard time being gentle. Good idea though!
