  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has the kitty never used the litter box, or has he just stopped going in the litter box.

Sometimes if a cat suddenly starts going to the bathroom in strange places, it can be a sign of an infection that needs to be cleared up--not sure if it's kidney or urinary tract or what.

kittens have to be taught to use the litterbox, usually by their moms. how old is the kitten? you might also need to experiment with different types of litter. i would confine the baby to one room so he is able to find his box when he needs it. he might not be able to "hold it" in time to make it to his box if he is far away. good luck! you can go to the message boards at petfinder.com to get good advice.

I've trained cats to use a litter tray with the following method:

Take kitty to the tray, hold his paw and gently make a pawing motion in the litter, then turn him round and sit his bum over the hole, gently pressing him down into position as if he were spending a penny. Then praise him lots. Back this up by watching him closely and if he squats to pee, quickly transfer him onto the litter.

If (when) he does manage to do it in the litter, make sure you give him lots and lots of fuss and praise. Whatever you do, don't scold him if he gets it wrong, just ignore it.

It's essential when using this process that you are always gentle and keep praising and fussing him, giving him lots of love and reassurance.

I once trained an old tom cat who'd been living rough for years, to use a litter tray with this method and he was so delighted when he realised he'd done it right! (ahh bless!!)

Good luck!
