  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is hypothetical, as no humans have been cloned yet.

But I was wondering if you would have a problem killing a human clone.

Hypothetically speaking, ok? Let's not get into this big "let's not clone in the first place" discussion. Let's just assume, and use our imaginations.

Why on earth would you kill him? After he has been cloned, he's the same human as everyone else. He (or she) would never know he was a clone if he wasn't told, so he (or she) could live a perfectly normal life.

This makes me question the purpose of cloning. Although the original post advised against pursuit of this avenue, I feel that it is relevent to mention humans already have an overly effective reproductive process. I do not feel clones would only be created to pursue 'normal human lives.' Perhaps some, but not all.

The fundumental issue is for such a clone, some people would assume it has no soul and thusly isn't human. I think the concept of souls and etc have become a form of mental evasion for the greater issue that plagues such hypotheticals. The issue is that humans must accept that all entities that can reason and act against deterministic mentalities have the universal right to exist. And that this right in question can only exist in such beings. A fetus doesn't have this capacity or that we assume it doesn't, thus the other part of this issue is when does an entity develop the right to defend its rights? That is something I'll leave up to you all to answer. ^__^

The fact that this question can even cross your mind shows that you've misunderstood what a clone is. A clone is, in all respects, an identical twin of the original person. A clone is not a "shadow person" or an imitation. He/she is a person like anybody else, who simply happens to have exactly the same DNA as some other person.

Killing a clone would be identical to killing any other human, homicide, murder. Just because man has attempted to play god by going outside the "natural" sexual process to create human life does not imply that that life would be any less precious in the eyes of God.

Son-cerely,

Nate

absolutely! A human clone is a human being. A clone is NOT an exact duplicate of a person... it's an exact duplicate of a person's DNA. That will make the clone more of a twin than a duplicate.

Would you kill your twin?

First of all, I really have no position on "this matter" I try to stay neutral so I can see all sides of the story before I make up my mind.

Second of all:

I was stating it to the general population

Third of all:

I wouldn't kill my twin

Fourth of All:

If a person commits a crime, would they kill both you and the clone? Since they're technically the same person? Or do you believe that it's the only that single entity's fault?

But see, that's what I'm trying to explain to you. A clone is not the same person as the original. A clone is another, entirely separate person who happens to have the same DNA as the original.

Killing your clone would be no different from killing your twin.

They aren't technically the same person, and they aren't a single entity. They're two different people in the same way that identical twins are two different people.

Identical twins have the same DNA. Upbringing, minute environmental changes, and a little variance in DNA replication would make for minute physical differences (as is seen in twins) and major differences in personality.

Being ammoral and an atheist, I would say that murder should be avoided at all costs. Heck, killing isn't realy a good idea either. I would have a serious problem killing a human clone, I would also have a problem killing a rat. I have killed a rat, and I was not happy at all about it. The poor thing was just trying to make a home for her babies.

Again, they are NOT technically or in any other way the same person. They are EXACTLY the same relationship as an identical twin. You're grasping for something that isn't there.
