Isaiah 22:22;"And the( key of the house of David) will I lay upon his (shoulder) so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open."
Jesus said in Revelation 3:7;"And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things are saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that (has the key of David), he that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens."
So Jesus has the key, but what did the Lord mean when he said in Isaiah that he would lay it on his shoulder?
I believe we are given the answer in Exodus 28:12 with 2 onyx stones that were engraved with the names of the children of Israel on them. Which were also to be placed (upon the shoulders) of the ephod of the High Priest for a memorial.
The onyx stone is a multi-colored stone, just like the coat of many colors Israel had made for Joseph. Meaning this key was to be given to the Lords children of Promise. These are those spiritual children who have the Word engraved upon their hearts and minds as seen in Jeremiah 31:33;"I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts."
These are those who would carry the Word of God (upon their shoulders,) just as the priesthood did in 1 Chronicles 15:15;"And the children of the Levites (bare the ark upon their shoulders) with the staves thereon,.." This key of David is the very (Word of God) made flesh; which is Jesus Christ.
Faith in Jesus is faith in Gods Word, and by it we are given (the key of knowledge) through his Spirit to unlock the doors of understanding. But not all were given this faith as was shown in Luke 11:52;"Woe unto you lawyers! for you have (taken away the key of knowledge) and you entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering you hindered."
In this we see the lawyers had the written Word of God, but by their lack of faith in it, and by their own selfish practices, and carnal ordinances they corrupted the Truth, and it became of no effect.
But when the Word of God is sought out through faith, then by the power of God the doors begin to open for those who knock. And for those whom the Lord has chosen, he did also empower with (the keys of knowledge,) and also the keys to the kingdom of heaven.
In Matthew 16:19 the Lord said to Peter;"And I will give unto thee the keys to the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
We see in this, that those who are given (the keys of heaven) by God, are also empowered by God with the ability to forgive sins here on earth. We also, through the power of Gods Word and Spirit are given the power to heal those who are bound by sin.
In Matthew 9:5-7 Jesus said;"For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?" But that you may know that the Son of man has power to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house."
And if Christ be( in us,) then do we not also have the power to forgive sins here on earth in his name? Yes, to those whom those keys are given, they also are given the keys that shall bind or loose in heaven.
