Description: Kestrel has long, honey-colored hair that would fall to her waist. She wears it (I'm not sure what the style is called) gathered up behind her head and bound by a cord, letting the rest hang down her back. She is of average height, athletic, with fairly tanned skin. Her eyes are deep blue, like twilight, and can be intent, and are always serious and alert.She wears trousers and a tunic that leaves her arms bare, all in shades of brown and green. Her feet are bare and tough as leather. Her voice is low, but in a distinctly feminine way. For weponry, she carries a long staff sharpened to a wicked point at one end and a bow, with arrows she made herself.
Personality: Kestrel sees the world with an almost childlike seriousness, yet is far from naive. Rather, she tends to take things in stride, which can cause her to act prematurely at times. She loves the wild where she grew up, and avoids the cities, and is clueless about city ways. Or anything not made of wood. She is drawn to protect travelers, especially women, children, and the weak. Her greatest fear is of losing her freedom and independence.
Background: Kestrel was the daughter of a of a sad romance between the warrior-Paladin Tridas and the woodswoman Ictera, a story which ended in his death. Kestrel remmbers nothing of him. She and her twin sister Starling grew up in the wild, alone save for their mother, who taught them everything they needed to know about the earth and its creatures, and speaking, and of God, whom she called the Life-Spirit. The sisters always took their ability to speak with the wild things as normal, never having lived among other humans.
Durinng her late teens another sad story graced Kestrel's life, ending that of Ictera and putting Kestrel and Starling in captivity. A series of events set her free, but Starling remained a prisoner. The sisters have not seen each other since.
She roams the forests and plains, surviving.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Animal Communication
he ability is fairly simple. She can talk to animals in their own languages, plus a sort of mind-to-mind communication. Like, for instance, a hawk. If she wanted to speak with a particular hawk, she could call it down by imitating its hunting call. During extensive conversation, an outsider would just see Kestrel and the hawk staring at each other most of the time. this does not mean the hawk will do what she wants -- this is communication, not control. She cannot communicate with plants or creatures of magical origins.
