  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay now i've heard everything!

My aunt said she believes the world will end, if Kerry becomes President!

Just out of curiousity, I believe in the rapture, yet I thought the Catholic Church doesn't believe in it, even though it's in the Bible, am I missing something? Cause if so, can I get in trouble?

I, personally, think there will not be a rapture. I think tribulation will be a time of testing for everyone. Will we have enough faith to make it through?

Also, I figure we need to be ready at all times, the world may not end today, but our world may....................

Oh yeah, the "rapture" makes PERFECT sense. :::sarcasm::: Jesus, the King of Glory, comes sneaking back to only take a certain "elect" to Him--before He comes in Glory the second time (that is). I thought there were TWO "Comings", not three. Ummm--where's THAT in the Bible?

As to that thing about "the world will end if Kerry is elected", well, maybe your Aunt's world WILL end fo her (things will be uncomfortably different for her), of course the rest of us will need to press on to the very end.

The Catholic Church does not teach a rapture like the rapture you hear being taught by Evangelicals. Why? I'll give you my POV as to why: Why would God pull His team off of the field in the final two minutes of a close game?

You can believe that God will come again to judge the living and the dead. Anything beyond that is pure specualtion.

The idea that God would take the believers and leave millions upon millions of unbelievers here for a 7 year stint is what is false. It's the contention of some that at that time more will be converted to Christ and they will have a second chance at getting saved. It's also their contention that this will be the most horrible time of human history. God simply would not take every shepherd off of this earth and leave a bunch of baby believers to fend for themselves. That is not the nurturing heart of the King, that speaks lies of His true character. That would be like abandonding a bunch of infants and toddlers in WW 3 and hoping like heck that they made it through.

Exactly. Would this also not cheapen the death of every martyr who has ever laid down their life for Christ?

When "rapture" is in the Bible it refers to what happens at the Second Coming of Christ.
When most Protestants talk about the "rapture," they are talking about an entirely different and unbiblical thing. Wishful thinking from the 1830s is what it is.

If the world ends, it will be because God has decided that it shall end at that moment and has put that moment aside from the beginning of time to be the end, not because Americans choose a bad leader. What God will do, God will do. We're not that powerful.

Let me see if I've got this straight. Catholics believe that the "rapture" discussed in the Bible is Jesus's rapture from Heaven to Earth while the Protestants believe it refers to man's rapture from Earth to Heaven. Am I saying that right?

We believe that we'll be raptured to heaven, but Jesus won't come back halfway through all the trouble, pick up some people, and then come back later for the rest. He's gonna return and get us all in one big swoop.

God can "change his mind." Or, we can hasten our own destruction. And prayers can make a difference.

That's true. There is an example in the OT, I can't remember the guys name but he was going to die and he prayed to God to let him live and God let him live another 15 years or something. I can't remember his name or even what book it's in, though.

Well that's true, but by "end of the world," I wasn't referring to the world's destruction, but to the moment in which Jesus will return and rescue us :)

They're basically the same thing, IP. After the General Judgement, the sheep will be with Our Lord and the goats will be with theirs. Then the world will be consumed by fire and a new heaven and a new earth will be created.
