Name: Kelvar Grimbrow
Occupation: Soldier (Though knight would be a more accurate description based on his adherence to the Alathean Code of Nobility)
Race: Human
Age: 38
Height: 6’0"
Weight: 250lbs unarmored, 325lbs in full battle dress
Weapons: primary - 2 custom made hybrid katar/gauntlets; secondary – a small, curved, single edged sword and numerous small, throwing axes.
Appearance: Dark and brooding, rugged is about the closest one could come to a complimentary description of Kelvar’s looks, though many years of hard training and harder fighting have left him with a strong and fit (if somewhat scarred) body. As intimidating and even menacing as he appears to most people, it only takes one look into his haunted grey eyes to see the kindness and compassion there. His weapons and armor show obvious use but are very well cared for as the tools of his trade. His armor is stained in erratic, flowing patterns of black, brown and green which make him difficult to see in most environs.
Background: Kelvar joined the Order of Nobility at the age of 14 when his parents died of plague and the Lender's Guild foreclosed on their small farm. He was a determined scholar and a devoted Seeker of the Order because his parents, like all good Alatheans, had instilled in him the values to give every effort to excel at whatever he endeavored to do and above all to remain true to the Creator and His commandments.
He attained the rank Guardian of the Order at the surprisingly young age of 22 and was soon assigned his first command at the Northern Reaches garrison. It was there that he first encountered the G'nath barbarians. His superiors knew the G'nath raided into the Northern Reaches and counted on these annoying and infrequent raids to give Kelvar some combat experience. What they hadn't counted on was a powerful and charismatic chieftan uniting the clans to invade Alathea.
It was Kelvar's caution that saved the garrison because he immediately dispatched riders to the Citadel at Algrom when the Rangers reported the movement of the G'nath clans. What followed was the bloodiest 10 years in the history of Alathea. Kelvar quickly increased in rank as the war ground on. There were a few battles where he narrowly escaped capture and death but the tides of war slowly changed and eventually the Alatheans drove the dwindling G'nath hoarde back into the mountains.
He had made a name for himself with both friends and foes. He was one of the few Alatheans the G'nath respected and the only one they feared. By the end of the war, they had come to call him D'ahl-G'ahl which in the Nath tongue means Seeker of Death, Bringer of Death. They called him this because of the intense battle rage that possessed Kelvar when he fought them. He would press them so hard in battle that it seemed he sought his own death but the fierce loyalty of his men made them fight as hard as he and so the battle would be won, often against overwhelming odds.
The very thing that made him such a venerated warrior was also what caused him the most emotional pain. He feared the rage inside him because of the raw power of it, yet he burned with joy when it was upon him. He spent many months sequestered in various monestaries, talking with priests and seeking solace. Finally one humble old monk told him that perhaps he should accept his burden as the Creator had accepted His Burden and use it to battle against evil.
Kelvar determined to do this. Upon reaching the age of 35, he was granted Fulfilment of Duties from The Order and set out to cross the Wastes and see if the legends were true about the wonders that lay on the other side.
