Maybe some of us are rushing out to buy our Christmas presents. Others are wondering whether we will get a job??!!! Some are adjusting to college life or the fact that they may be graduating and have to go out into what has become a rather unsure job market. Some of us may already be planning or new years resolutions or business/education plans. In all of this I would like you to reflect on whether you have kept God in the picture this year.
This has been a year of blessings and trials. My high point being when my second daughter was born earlier this year, but there have been, to me, so many trials that I have had to endure. Often I shouted at God, telling him when I was down that he was not fair, and why didn't I, one of the people who chose to accept him, prosper or reap the many promises ? Sometimes I didn't even talk to him, or read the Bible for the answer that he was trying to give me. Other times I felt insincere in that there were many who would come to me for advice and counsel on various issues whilst inside I was hurting and tearing up. Do you know what I mean?
I would like to share something with you which I have found personally very eye opening for me. God is not someone who operates on our terms and at our every whim. God is not a vending machine to whom we can slot in a couple of coins when we feel like and kick when the product does not come out when we want. God is not evil wishing to hurt or destroy anyone. God is a God of love. Some may say this is nothing new, but how often do we forget it ? When we are hurting or things happen to those around us, death, pain, desertion, etc.
If we accept that God is all knowing, all loving and our Father the bridge between his knowledge and our understanding is TRUST. Trust that God hurts when we hurt. Trust that sometimes he allows short term pain to avoid a lifetime of misery. Trust that he is able to provide even when we can't see it. Trust that it is him who brings a smile to your face. This trust is not an instant thing, but a daily!!! A daily reminder that we must continue to keep God in the picture.
Father God, as simple as it sounds sometimes it is really hard to keep trusting. Especially if we feel our heart is broken or that nothing seems to go right. I pray today that by someone's word, or someone's song, or someone's prayer that we will trust you more. Heal anyone who is hurting and reading this prayer. In Jesus name. Amen
