  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi, I am a non-denominational christian. I know some people, not personally tho, who are 7th day adventists. What is the difference in beliefs?
I have looked at a few threads on here. So do you get discrimanated against here or feel like you get attacked? if you do, then thats really stink.
I read in the TIME magazine that 7th day adventists live longer than the average person because you dont drink caffein and alot are vegetarians. I think thats great.
Anyhow just interested..not looking to attack or discriminate.

Obvious differences between us and mainstream christianity is the day we worship on. We hold the 7th day ( saturday ) to be God's Holy Day set aside at creation to be the Sabbath. There are a few other major differences as well. We don't believe the soul in and of itself has immortality and goes immediately to heaven or hell when we die. We also do not beleive in an eternal hell fire where folks burn forever. Those are the major differences. I was baptist and pentacostal along with a few other's before I came to adventism. The way the services are conducted are very similar to a baptist service. I can't tell any difference there at all. There is a big difference between the way pentacostals worship and adventists though. Hope this helps.

God Bless

Hi Melinie,

Thank you for stopping by the SDA Forum and asking questions.

I'll do my best to answer your questions. In your post you said

May I assume that your question about the difference in beliefs would apply to the beliefs of Seventh-day Aventist as compared to other Christians? The very first thing I should say is that SDAs, just like all Chistians, are followers of Jesus Christ and He comes first in our lives. It is only through the grace that was offered to mankind by His death on the cross that we may have salvation. That being said, I'll not try to go into what some mght call the "fine points" but just state the most notable differences.

The most noticeable difference is that we observe the seventh Sabbath as found in the Fourth Commandment of the Ten Commandments. Many say that the seventh day Sabbath is the Jweish Sabbath and was only intended for the Jews. However you will fnd that God Himself observed the seventh day Sabbath as found in Genesis 2:1-3.

You have mentioned some of the dietary habits that most SDAs follow. Although a vegetarian diet is recomended it is not a requirement. The same goes for the consumption of caffein. From a purely clinical standpoint these dietary practices have been shown to be most effective in promoting good health and long life. As you noticed in Time magazine, and also as published in National Georaphic, SDAs as a group, are one of the longest living groups of people on earth.

Other than the Sabbath and dietary practices, the most noticeable difference in beliefs is what happens when you die. If you would like to find out more about this topic as well as some of the other beliefs held by Seventh-day Adventist why don't you go to the Bible Study sub-forum and ask all the questions you might wish to ask. The Bible Study sub-forum is for anyone who is new to Adventism or new to Bible Study. There the answers that will be given will be from the Bible only. You might also like to join our daily Sabbath School Lesson Study.

As for as being "discriminated against here" or feeling like we "get attacked," for me personally I would have to say no. Certainly there are those who take exception to our beliefs. But I can safely tell you that what I blieve as a Seventh-day Adventist is based 100% on the Bible and the Bible only. Unfortunately, at the momnt, there is more debate and dissagrement right here in the SDA forum between SDAs than you are apt to find, between almost anyone or, anywhere else. Much of this is over what I refered to as "the fine points" of our beliefs.

Feel free to join our group for fellowship or Bible study anytime. You are always welcome.

Respectfully, your brother in Christ,
Doc

Hi,

Welcome to the SDA forum!

I used to be an atheist, then went to a Pentecostal church, then was baptised in a Baptist church (very much like Jim's experience). Then the Lord led me to the SDA church on the sabbath issue. I truly believe this (SDA church) is where He wants me to be.

In many ways, the SDA denomination is unique to the rest of the Christianity.

Aside from the 7th day (saturday) sabbath observance, SDAs have a unique message for the endtime that is found in Rev 14:6-11. SDAs also have an unique understanding of Righteousness by Faith, that is the righteousness is not only imputed to the believers at justification, it is also imparted to them during sanctification. So by the merit of His sacrifice, He not only saves us of our sins, He saves us from our sins: we thus receive His power to live a sanctified (transformed) life.

Who's right? Whoever believes in the whole truth is right. The bible is often referred to as the law and the prophet.

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

That's two parts, keep the commandments of God (all 10, including the sabbath commandment) and have gift of prophecy.

Here is a link to SDA fundamental believes.

Hope this helps,

God bless!

Hi once again Melinie,

From your screen name of ObeyGod and your last question,
"thanks for the info.
im always interested in different denominations etc.
the big question is tho..which one is right?"
Would I be safe to belive that you woud like to find out just exactly what the Bible has to say on these various topics? If I'm correct in that belief, then once again I invite you to stop by the Bible Study sub-forum and ask all the questions, about any topic or subject, that you might wish to ask and get 100% biblical answer to your questions.

Respetfully, your brother in Christ,
Doc
