Because of my battles with Body Dysmorphic Disorder, I tend to have a central focus on God. I just wanted to share my God thoughts with you because they come from a sufferer of body image issues.
Just as God rejoices over our thoughts of HIm, we, too, rejoice over His thoughts of us. When someone gives us a gift, we are usually appreciative of the thought that came from that person. We like the idea that someone was thinking of us. God also appreciates when our moment-to-moment thoughts are focused on Him for all the days of our life.
Battling BDD, I have come to understand the importance of being centered and focused in God and on God. In a meditation, Jesus told me to look at myself through His eyes. But I can take that much further and know that He also wants me to hear through His ears, feel through his feelings, speak through his mouth, and Love through His love.
When I look in the mirror, it is important for me to see myself through the eyes of Jesus. If I don't, my vision becomes distorted through the eyes of the Body Dysmorphic Order. My eyes are tainted by the corruption of this world and the ungodly events and people of this world. It is so important that I stay in Jesus for He is committed to stay within me.
How does one look at oneself through the eyes of Jesus? When we look into the mirror the first thought should be Jesus. The first question we ask ourselves is: "How would Jesus see me?" We must then view ourselves as magnificant and beautiful for we are made by God and we are His masterpiece. What we view as a flaw is a perfect image in the eyes of God. It only becomes a flaw when we look at ourselves through the eyes of flesh - through the eyes tainted by this world.
Imagine leaving earth and travelling deeper into space. See how the earth gets smaller until it's a tiny spec. Imagine yourself in that tiny spec and how much smaller you are to that spec. At this distance we can only be seen under God's microscope. When we put existence into this microscopic perspective, we begin to see just how big our God really is. God is huge.
God sees you as beautiful. May His vision be your vision. Amen
