Some time ago I came to understand the domino theory, (my terminology). The domino theory is when someone has a belief that is not based on the Bible, as a whole. This belief is built on half verses and a lot of speculation. Even though the person believes what he believes and can back it up with so called, Scripture support, what he is believing is not true.
Now comes a man of God. He shares the truth and shakes the whole belief system of the one who is believing a lie. Why do I say his whole belief system shakes? Because our belief system is set up like dominos. When one goes down, they all start going down because one belief is built on another belief and so on. This can be very hard to receive by the one who's dominos are falling.
Let me give you an example.
There are people who believe and base their whole theology on the fact that there is a seven year tribulation after Jesus comes for His church. All their evangelism is based on this belief. Some even base their lifestyle on this belief. They give Scripture support for why they believe what they believe and will fight you to the end. But their whole belief system is built on the sand of partial verses.
For example.
They say Jesus is coming as thief to secretly take His church and then there will be seven years of tribulation. They will point you to at least two verse to support this.
1 Thess 5:2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night,
Their whole doctrine of the secret rapture is built on these two verses that say Jesus is coming as a thief in the night, and then they add, to secretly take His church leaving the rest of the world to survive the seven years of tribulation. But is this what God is saying or is this what man is saying? Well, let's continue to read the rest of the verse they use to support the secret rapture and the seven years of tribulation that follows it.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, (if we stop right here we can add a seven year tribulation but if we continue that domino falls) in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. No seven year tribulation here.
How about the next supporting verse?
1 Thess. 5:2-3 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. (if we stop right here we can add a seven year tribulation but if we continue that domino falls) For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. No seven year tribulation here.
When these dominos begin to fall people become as Cain. They want to attack and discredit the messenger.
We have to be patient with them because I use to be one of them. I thought I knew my Bible when I believed these very same things. I use to promote the Left Behind movie to my friends as an evangelism tool. I use to fight for the Once Saved, Always Saved doctrine. I use to believe a lot of things that were built on sand and I got mad when people spoke against what I was taught.
I say all this because there are people coming here who are where I use to be. They have all the same doctrines that are built on sand that I had. As each domino falls they get madder and madder until one day they give into the truth and become a powerful witness for God.
Just though I would share...
