  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

just sayin' hello

I just thought I would come in and introduce myself. My name is Braxton but everyone calls me Brax. I am a high school sophomore and my classes are getting ridiculously difficult. I play football and basketball and I spend a lot of time reading and talking on the phone to my girlfriend which I really don't like. I love my girlfriend but I just don't like talking on the phone, but she likes it so whatever makes her happy.

I chose my name because right now I can hear an Abba song playing in the background and I think Abba sucks.

I was recently kicked out of my house and I am staying with my aunt until I can patch things up with my dad. My aunt is a member here and she suggested that I might join this forum. I am not a Christian though, I am an atheist. I like christian people though, I do not know any other atheists and all of the people I have in my life who I love are christians, I just dont have a reason to believe in God.
nice to meet you
Brax

Welcome! If you do find a reason to believe in God, please share - a lot of folks around here are still looking for one. I've got a few, but I'm always on the lookout for more.

Kicked out of your house?!?! Er. What for? Please, please, please don't say it's because you're an atheist. I would cry.

Thanks you guys. yes seebs I was kicked out for being an atheist and it has caused a fight with my aunt and my dad so I feel guilty for causing problems but I just do not believe in God basically because I dont have a reason to. I read that some forums are Christian only which ones can I go in? I like the christian people, my family, friends and girlfriend are all believers of God.

Oh, man! That's awful.

It's also, frankly, sorta dim; hope you don't mind me dissing your relatives, but do they really think that kicking a kid out of the house is a good way to demonstrate Christ-like love? *sigh*.

If you look at the front page, you'll see a list of forums that are "open" and some that are "Christians-only". If you get confused, you'll probably get polite reminders at first.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

Hi pandora This place seems like a cool place, I saw another non believer here also are there many? I like your handle it is very pretty.

We did a poll in GA (General Apologetics), roughly 47-48-5 split on believers/nonbelievers/undecided.

There's a fair number, and some of 'em are pretty good folks to know.

hey seebs
I am almost 16 and yeah it did suck, the worst was my dad yelling at his sister (my aunt) for taking my side oh and by the way I heard you and Anabel would be good "mentors"

Gosh! That's flattering.

FWIW, I'm a Christian, but when I was your age, I didn't believe in anything. Hmm. Thinking back, at 16 I was actively rejecting any kind of absolute system of morality, instead preferring personal ethics, which were a purely personal decision. Heh.

Anyway, I have to say, I'm pretty upset with your dad's behavior. Kicking you out for "not believing" is not very good parenting. If he wants you to believe, maybe instead of trying to threaten you or scare you, he should try to *persuade* you. And, if it turns out that apologetics isn't one of his gifts, maybe he should just *love* you. There's lots of apologists, but not many parents.

well I guess I really have never believed I just more or less went through the motions of religion in my life because of my family. Awhile back I went to my dad and I started asking him questions and he just seemed irritated so I quit that and I finally just told him I just don't believe in God. I cant see the things happening like they do and also thinking God is there but I just dont really have a reason to, I dont think my life is worse off for not believeing but I do plan to learn a thing or two here and maybe get to know some nice people.
my dad thinks I am a devil worshiper what is that all about? since when does not believing = devil worship?

This is the first time I have ever talked with someone who has been in my shoes.

I feel depressed about it and really angry. This has changed my view of him and not only that but I have lost some respect for him as both a man and a father. I realize now though there is no such thing as unconditional love and that makes me feel not so good.
