I haven't worked since January 2007, and I was fired from that job. It was a call centre, very stressful, and I was there almost a year. I was diagnosed with Asperger's the same year (age 21). My doctor even wrote that I'd 'never work again' and 'maybe low level training in future'.

Since then I have volunteered for our SPCA for the past year, took Veterinary Assisting online and now taking Forestry and Wildlife Conservation online. I started babysitting a year ago. And then petsitting.

Now I just started working as a cashier at The Home Depot!

What a great story! I love that you proved that that DR didn't have a clue about what he was talking about. Those of us with AS have our issues, but being dumb isn't one of them. You are a testimony to the fact that what ever we set our mind to understand we can.

I am doing well as a cashier, but today I worked as a greeter and loved it. They asked me to be a greeter because the greeter has been sick for the past few weeks (and they only have one), but I didn't think I'd like it... Well, I do, so I asked if I could pick up some shifts as one.

neat. I find as you just experienced that sometimes I'm a little fearful of something new. But once I try it and get into it I like it.

Awesome Hugs and congrats to you. We may have to work harder then the Neuro Typicals, but like he said we are often far from incapable.
