  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just getting started :)

I have recently become a Christian. I learned about Jesus through talking to other Christians online. The thing is... and I know this is going to sound pretty crazy but circumstances have brought me here... I do not have a Bible, and all the ones I see at Christian bookstores are too expensive for me. I can only read the Bible when I go to the library, or get online at a public computer (there are some public terminals in my city and also at the library of course). I have a lot of credit card debt and I really have a hard enough time eating well these days.

So my question is this... does anyone know where I can get a free Bible? I know that churches do that sort of thing but I don't really know yet what kind of church I want to go to (I've just been talking and praying with other Christians I know online so far) and I don't want to take something free from a church that is expecting me to show up again next week when I really might not. See my dilemma?

Any help would be great.

Congratulations on your recent new birth! As far as your being without a Bible is concerned, I've worked in quite a few churches and anytime somebody asked us for a Bible of their own, we gave them one, no questions asked and without any expectations of them to come back to worship with us. I can't think of any church I've ever been to that didn't have at least a few extra Bibles kicking around. I'd encourage you to try one.

Congratulations on becoming a Christian!

I second dcyates' post. I always love giving away Bibles to new believers. Feel free to call up a local church and explain your situation. They should be more than happy to give you a Bible.
