• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just for once let us all try to be honest.

Except for the Southern Baptist Convention (still the largest Protestant denomination in the US) which was founded to support slavery.
National Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian organizations all split over slavery in the decades leading to the US Civil War. Unless "true Christian" is defined as "opposes slavery", then the claim was nonsense.

We didn't forget that at all. We are simply pointing out that you do not follow all of the Bible.
But let's forget behavior for a while. Do you believe that dove's blood can cure leprosy? Does a goat looking at striped sticks bear striped young? Is the Earth flat? The Bible advocates all of these claims. Of course one can always reinterpret the Bible in light of today's knowledge, but if you do that it begs the question: Why oppose the theory of evolution in he first place?

Maybe AV is consol ...

Now why would you say a thing like that, I'll bet you think people who post a lot are AVs, but that is because you were brought up to think that.

Truth be told, if you lived in another country would you think I was consol. or would you realize that those without a proper education that are allowed to post here will eventually bring down the moral fabric of the country, then the next thing you know the whole world is in a mess, and its all because of people like AV who preffer quantity over quality.

Oh, well, if it bothers you that much, why don't you just put me on ignore, or something else, like don't read my posts, or maybe you could just report me, or maybe you could just not log in, or maybe not log on, or maybe you could just let it go, because if you give a person enough rope, he will hang, himself, especially, if he's a creationist, and especially if hes a literal genesis creationist It's your choice.

The slavery issue was settled decades ago.

If it was truly the slavery issue, what keeps them going now?

Same thing that keeps any religion going, tax free income.
They can have tax-free income without slavery.

What keeps them Southern Baptists, now that slavery has been abolished?

It seems to be a combination of fear, self deception, and in some cases greed.
So you're saying they would have been Southern Baptists, whether or not slavery existed?

And greedy of what, exactly?

(You do know that Turncoat Falwell went from Independent Baptist to Southern Baptist, do you not? was he expecting to pick up some slaves?)

Yes, if slavery still existed your church would probably still exist.

And greedy of what, exactly?

Some of the mega-churches are Southern Baptist. There is a lot of money that a few can make abusing the ignorant.

Nope, just more money and power. I take it that you do not approve of Falwell.

I beg your pardon?

Please show me a mega Southern Baptist church in 1865.

I'd venture to say Mr. Lincoln took care of the power problem.

Falwell backslid ... but he's in Heaven now, so that's that.

Maybe I should start a challenge thread on what you are struggling to answer, and we can see how many other educated folk will follow suite ... eh?

I beg your pardon?

What did you not understand?

Please show me a mega Southern Baptist church in 1865.

Who say that we are limited to talking only about the past? In that case fear and ignorance would have been enough at that time.

Who got rich off of you?

No one. You seem to be having a very hard time following a rather simple conversation.

I'd venture to say Mr. Lincoln took care of the power problem.

Perhaps at his time, not at our time. You seem to be stuck in the past.

Falwell backslid ... but he's in Heaven now, so that's that.

Why on Earth would Falwell be in heaven? If anything his activities and lack of remorse would have put him elsewhere, if your beliefs are right. Odds are that he ended up in the same place that all of us will go to.

Maybe I should start a challenge thread on what you are struggling to answer, and we can see how many other educated folk will follow suite ... eh?

I am not struggling. Your inability to understand a post does not mean that the other person is having any difficulties.

Why you're not willing to follow the conversation.

Those who want to yak about slavery being the cause of the Southern Baptist church's inception.
Subduction Zone said:

Fear of what? Abraham Lincoln?

If the Southern Baptist churches started because of slavery, and slavery went bye-bye, what's keeping the Southern Baptists Southern Baptists?

According to you, it's 'fear and ignorance.'

Fear and ignorance of what?
Subduction Zone said:

That's because I'm having a hard time finding your slaves here in the 21st century.

I'm finding Southern Baptists, but I can't see what justifies their existence anymore.

They evidently were more interested in slaves than Jesus back then.

But Jesus took their slaves away.

Now what's piqued their interest? snakes?

Oh, please.

Once saved, always saved -- 'nuff said.

Well Genghis you should have been paying more attention. My first post in this series was in response to this question of yours:

"What keeps them Southern Baptists, now that slavery has been abolished?"

So let's forget all of your past error where you excessively blew up my posts in a response (by the way that is usually not a good sign, nor an honest debating technique) and why not see if you can understand the answer this time around.

Well according to your [rocks head side to side] highly intelligent VAGUE reply [/rocks head side to side], it's 'fear, self deception, and in some cases greed.'

I don't even know how to address that.

Tried to PM you, but couldn't, so I'll just say it in public.

Dude, I'm so sorry if I offened you. I think I've made it clear that I actually have respect for you because of who you are. Not that we agree on ... anything . My point was, if you are consol, it would be the greatest Poe ever! Beyond great, beyond legendary, well ...
