It would be interesting to know just how many "Anabaptists" actually participate in/read these threads. How well are they represented in these discussions?

Not often. I have lurked here for a while so I was pretty prepared but this particular board is not very lively, how ever there are several other more active groups on different boards which I of course won't mention here. From what I have read of old threads, this board has been more active in the past.

I too am a newbie. Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you too, 4Ever. Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that any post/question placed here would garner little input from those actually living within the Anabaptist community; it appears that that may be the case. I would be interested in active discussion groups.

Well, I just found this site so haven't even read any post but I am anabaptist so will be responding if there is anything worthwhile in discussion! :) I don't spend a lot of time online so it may be sporadic!

Glad to know you, Mildred. I always thought Mildred was a beautiful name. :)

I know some conservative leaning Mennonites who actively avoid this forum. "Anabaptism" as it relates to this forum is not clearly defined - A point I've brought up before and written to the moderators about. The result is that little discussion of actual "anabpatism" occurs, and few people from Anabaptist groups participate.

Wayne,

I have come to realize that the term "Anabaptist" has become a rather generic term; I don't mean that in a disparaging way, just an observation. It's a term that is applied to a wide spectrum of believers. Clearly, this forum will not represent those who would shun the use of electricity, let alone, the computer. Consequently, communication with that ultra-conservative group is difficult; one is limited by geographical location and happen-chance.

I don't have in mind primative technology, but the generic "theology" of Anabaptism is quite different from Quakerism or Messianic Evangelicalism, and it involves a great deal more than political pacifism. In fact it is fundamentally different from Catholicism or, most importantly, Protestantism, though groups descended from the original Anabpatists have certainly assimilated elements from other Christian groups.

Wayne,

Would you want to take a stab at summarizing the fundamental theological differences that set apart the anabaptists from the ones you mentioned? I know that's a big task. The symbols associated with your title indicate you're an anabaptist. Do you identifiy with a particular group? Perhaps it would be more appropriate to address this through some other avenue - I don't know.

I'll take a stab at it sometime in the next few days.
