Just back from Sonata Arctica and all I have to say is, best show I've been to in a long time. The Odeon was pretty easy to find, I got a little lost down by the Gund, but my one friend has a built in GPS in him, so we found our way. In the one parking garage I hit the concrete walling at 2 mph. Didn't do anything to my car, but it was pretty funny.
There was hardly anybody there at the show. Maybe like 50 people when we first got there. Antithesis came on first. They were pretty tight. The new singer isn't that bad. The only thing that really made me mad was that they played all new songs. I booed them the whole time and these fans were getting mad at me. It's pretty stupid to come see a band you want to see and have them play songs off an album that hasn't even been released yet!
Eternal Legacy was up next. Suprsingly these guys were all kids! The keyboardist looked like he was 16. Jason kept calling him harry potter, cause he looked like him, except with red hair. The guitarist looked different, wearing sandals and a beanny. There music was pretty cool though. It wasn't as neo-classical as I thought it would be. More prog, but eh. I wouldn't mind getting some of their music, in fact I almost got one, a la the second part of the concert that made me mad (the first one was hitting the cement, though it was kind of funny later on). The band members started tossing out demos into the crowd, and one hit me in the head. I got this awesome cut on my head, and I didn't even get the cd! Oh well. Maybe I'll e-mail them and tell them what happened. Maybe they will send me one. I think they are locally around Cleveland, but not for sure.
Then Sonata Arctica came on! It was great! Lots of fun. The band sounded really good, save for the keyboardist cause you couldn't really hear him that good. Other than that it was cool. They played just about ever song off their first album. Which was good cause that is my favorite. The third and last thing that made me mad was that during the encore, and the song the Cage, some drunk dude threw his beer in the air and it went over everyone, and in my eyes!!!! I washed my eyes out the best I could, but they still burn.
There set list was something like this:
Destruction Preventer
Misplaced
Blinded No More
Full Moon
Victoria's Secret
Broken
8th Commandment
Shamandalie
Kingdom for a Heart/Letter to Dana
Replica
My Land
Black Sheep
Sing in Silence
The End of This Chapter
Gravenimage (incomplete)
Don't Say a Word
The Cage
Some crazy polka thing/smoke on the water
Other than that, probably the best concert I have been to since Blind Guardian/Symphony X. Power metal concerts make you feel good to be there.
