• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

just reading some of the posts is making me think that we really need a Sexual Assault board in recovery because whilst abuse is a part of it - we go thru a lot of different things.

Do you think that a sexual Assault board would work ? and if so should it be linked to this forum and if not would u be comfortable for sexual assault survivors to access this forum for their issues ?

Shaz, do you mean abuse involving sex vs. abuse not involving sex?
Two separated areas?

Hey Sha,

With sexual assault its normally a short term event whilst the abuse goes on multiple times normally starting at a young age. I know there have been many other threads within the recovery board by people talking about R*** and have no idea what to do / where to go to talk about it. It was assault but its not what people class as abuse... oh it was just r*** but that just r*** has changed their lives forever.

Thats the sort of angle i'm coming from. Giving people a chance to talk and to seek help for stuff that happened to them and also to break the silence because we are taught to get over it and its not something that is easy to get over at all.

Because with a lot of the R*** issues I have a problem posting in SoA because you guys have been thru so much and mine was 1 stupid night making a very bad judgement call and i got hurt from it. I wanted to see what people thought b4 I suggested this as a forum to the CF mods.

ok just for clarification I am not going to be suggesting we get rid of SoA by anymeans because it is awesome but probably look at a lot of the guilt and other issues that rape survivors go thru and just make it a safe place for rape survivors to go and talk about stuff.

I feel the same, I always second guess myself, because I have not been through what others have and I feel like I am simply complaining while others out there have been through a lot more and tougher situations

The hardest thing we do is compare pain ..."she was r***d at gun point , he was abused for 15 yrs whilst i was only ...." and yet thats what stops so many people from getting help. I was only r***d once whilst some people endure it every day of their lives.

Honestly i think its a good idea,i mean the older ones and younger ones need to know that we support them being a survivor of sexual and physical abuse i think its a good idea,i mean somtimes it does help to talk about it and share it,you know get it off your chest,or somthing,im supportive with the idea,i think it would come to good use.

Blessed be to all,
Katie

I understand your differences as you explain them. I did vote yes in your poll. The yes is for your concept...I'm concerned about your title.

I do have one problem, why not call rape "rape."
The same confusion that is showing in this thread is the confusion that will be cropping up when people choose a forum for their needs.

When a sex abuse victim sees, "Sexual Assault" forum, they are very likely to come there and you will end up with two boards that are splittling the Sex Abuse victims. If your concern is Rape vs. Abuse, why not call it Rape Survivors or Survivors of Rape?

Just my thought.

There is a sexual assult thread that has been running for over a year. What some people wonder about is that it has been placed in the 'non-Christian' section so it can be accessed by anyone. This is a good for everyone, but I think some people miss it because of it's location.

I am glad requests are being honored but now childhood abuse survivors have lost a safe place to go here and connect and I have posted to Erwin about it...
what happened to our abuse threads that were here???
I am a bit upset...the advocate in me comes out in something like this..sigh.
