The Baptism of Jesus in the first chapter of Mark includes all three persons. That's one instance.
Calvinism...it's a theological point of view. I find it a waste of time regarding my relationship with God. The answer to the question...is a long one.
I'll just give you the TULIP
T-Mankind is Totally depraved, incapacitated by sin to do anything to save himself.
U-The elect are chosen by god without conditions. You are chosen just because...
L-Limited atonement. The cross saves only those who are chosen by God. Jesus did not die for the others.
I-Irrestisible grace...we cannot resist God if he chooses us.
P-Perseverance of the saints-we cannot I guess Undo our salvation or become "unelected."

That is the ridiculously abridged view of Calvinism.
I urge you to see stuff like this out for yourself. I'm not a Calvinist, some people here are. You find out for yourself what you think about Calvinism/Armenianism. I've always found that when it comes to a school of thought, you have to work a little too hard to make everything fit in one way or another. I don't think this is what God intended. God transcends any box you try to fit him in.
Matthew 5:17-19 indicates that we should pay more attention to the OT than we do. Way back when, that was the only scriptire around. There was no new testament. In fact, everyone was Jewish. For some reason we never think about that. I believe Jesus is the living Torah and when we believe in Him we have the Torah in our hearts.

well in the book of hebrews there is a conversation recorded between the father and the son. and all through the gospels we see Jesus speaking to the father and the father communicating back.
Jesus constantly confirmed that THE FATHER was many things that was not, and could do and know things he could not do, and did not know.

Jesus said only the father knows the day of his coming, Jesus said not even the Son of man, jesus himself, knew that day.
so the father knows things Jesus doesnt know, they arent same person.

Jesus constantly said he did nothing, and could do nothing outside of the THE FATHER. he was dependant on the fathers power, he did not have his own. again, they arent same person.

Jesus once answered a man who had called him "good" by saying "who is good except the father" Jesus said that he wasnt even "good" like the father is.
im not trying to say Jesus was a sinner, but he wasnt same as the father.

Jesus could not be the father, becuase they are so very diffrent, they dont know the same things, cant do the same things, arent the same things, according to the scripture.

calvinism....
someone else can talk about that one. i only certain aspects of it that i dont agree with.

the old testament.
paul told the new testament churchs that the things written before hand, speaking of the old testament and the stories of moses and the prophets, where written before hand for our benefit, as examples, encouragement and strength to us.
we need them, they greatly elaborate on issues of the new testament.
and books like psalms and proverbs are filled with never ending wisdom, insight and encouragment for all peoples, they should never be disregarded.

Jesus constantly quoted the old testament, and the rest of the apostles did too, yes we need it.

paul said the scriptures were inspired by the lord, and given to make man perfect.
at the time that he said that, i think many scholars agree that, basicly no new testament writings had even been completed yet, he was certainly saying that the old testament was given to even us by God.

The only things of the old testament that we no longer need are certain rituals that the old testament did.
there are many things they did, that we dont do, and many things they did, that we do still need to do. the way you understand which ones are gone and which are not, is to know why somethings were done away with.

the reason is that the bible says somethings were "shadows" or "pictures" of the coming Christ.
like sacrifices, them sacrificing lambs and bulls was a representation or picture of what Christ was going to do on the cross.
so, when Jesus came and did that, we didnt need sacrifices anymore, before they were only a picture of shadow of what Jesus did, so they were finished.

other things like "thall shall not murder" are still true, and never will cease to be true. becuase that was not a shadow or picture of anything, it was Just Gods law that will never change. its still wrong to murder today, becuase not murdering wasnt a shadow or picture of anything, it was just Gods law and it still is.

the things of the old testament that we dont need now are things like rituals that are clearly only representations of the coming Christ, and were needed only up untill he came.

the things you dont do away with are things that werent just pictures of the coming Christ, but just how things always ought to be.

see what im saying?

like tithing, that was certainly a part of the old law, and even though the bible says all the old law was done away with, Jesus told the pharisees to tithe and we should still tithe today becuase we still have need of that today. tithing wasnt a picture of the coming Christ, Christ did nothing to fullfill tithing like he did to fullfill animal sacrifices, tithing was and is how things ought to always be.
somethings they did are gone, somethings are not, you have to know which things were only pictures of the coming Christ, and which things were just how it always ought to be.

some people seem to think that all old testament teaching is no longer relevant and that is far from the truth, Jesus used it to teach and confirm nearly all that he taught, and so did paul and peter and people after him.

The OT is amazing. There are pictures of God that you never seen in the NT. I love the book of Deuteronomy for that.

Reading through the Bible from front to back is an amazing thing. You start to see more of the whole picture. Things start to fit together better and make sense. The books of the law, although they may seem dry are actually amazing in that the very things that were commanded there are still applicable today. In fact, the reason why we have many of the problems today are because those simple laws are not followed. Not talking about sacrifices but many of the other laws/commands that are stated. Read through them and you will understand.

If you have never read through the Bible from front to back, you should. The Bible is God's instruction manual for godly living. The one that only reads for here and there, will not have a full understanding of God's instructions.

I have to agree with the Cheese man on the whole Calvanism thing. I just do not see why it was even invented, maybe to get out of witnessing, and seeing christian as a we vs them mentality.

Then I have to agree with Oracle X on the OT. There is so much there in the OT on how God reveals Himself to His people and it really is a precurser to what and who Jesus is to us- the gentiles. Going through Genesis and Exodus and Leviticus really gave my a richer affection of who God is and why He gave us Jesus.

The Trinity- *putting on teacher hat*
The word "trinity" is a term used to denote the Christian doctrine that God exists as a unity of three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each of the persons is distinct from the other, yet related in essence. Each is divine in nature, but each is not the totality of the Godhead. Each has a will, loves, and says "I", and "You" when speaking. The Father is not the same person as the Son who is not the same person as the Holy Spirit who is not the same person as the Father. Each is divine, yet there are not three gods, but one God. There are three persons individual subsistences, or persons. The word "subsistence" means something that has a real existence. The word "person" denotes individuality and self awareness. The Trinity is three of these, though the latter term has become the dominant one used to describe the individual aspects of God known as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Included in the doctrine of the Trinity is a strict monotheism which is the teaching that there exists in all the universe a single being known as God who is self-existent and unchangeable (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8). Therefore, it is important to note that the doctrine of the trinity is not polytheistic as some of its critics proclaim. Trinitarianism is monotheistic by definition and those who claim it is polytheistic demonstrate a lack of understanding of what it really is.
  • The Trinity
    • God is three persons
    • Each person is divine
    • There is only one God.
Many theologians admit that the term "person" is not a perfect word to describe the three individual aspects/foci found in God. When we normally use the word person, we understand it to mean physical individuals who exist as separate beings from other individuals. But in God there are not three entities, nor three beings. God, is a trinity of persons consisting of one substance and one essence. God is numerically one. Yet, within the single divine essence are three individual subsistences that we call persons.

The word "trinity" is not found in the Bible. But this does not mean that the concept is not taught there. The word "bible" is not found in the Bible either, but we use it anyway. Likewise, the words "omniscience," which means "all knowing," "omnipotence," which means "all powerful," and "omnipresence," which means "present everywhere," are not found in the Bible either. But we use these words to describe the attributes of God. So, to say that the Trinity isn't true because the word isn't in the Bible is an invalid argument.

Check out 2 Cor 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

The concept of the Trinity is right there in that one verse.

i totally agree with oraclex's post. I have read and re-read the new testament, i have picked at various books of the bible, but when you begin to read the whole thing front cover to back, it is an amzing experience. Not only do i read, but i write notes and cross reference. I write down what i have understood to be the message of each verse and that way, i am more inclined to remember them.

i have so much to learn still, but i am loving every moment of opportunity that draws me closer to God.
