• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey there,

I am curious has anyone had jury duty and then get out of it because they are mentally ill? I have been summoned for jury duty but I don't think they will let me serve because I have a mental illness. So I might be getting out of this one. How about you guys, ever had to get out of jury duty?

Yep, a few years ago i was called for jury duty. it was before I was diagnosed. I got out of it because we have no relativesin this time zone, therfore we hve no way to take care of the children if I am away. My Beloved works full time. I was lucky at the time because of the situation. However, I have since 8th grade wanted to serve on jury duty... :( Now, I cannot. I also cannot leagally own a gun, which in my case is a blessing. Let me clearly state that is a fact, and am in no way encouraging any negative thoughts or actions. I also am not , well, you get it... I am just stating the fact of something else I leagally cannot do... My best to all! :)

In all fairness you should not hide about your illness. If you are selected, it could cause a lot of issues, and maybe you could get in trouble. I really don't know... Just trying to be supportive of you my friend... :)

My doc wrote an excuse for me once when I was still very ill with depression and before my diagnosis with bp. I would not hesitate to serve today and have gotten summons and responded and yet to have to go thru a selection process. So bp-pm me about this gun thing, I am curious.

Thomas, I think it depends on how you feel and whether it would be a healthy thing for you to do or not. I mean, how would they know, after all it is protected health info and they have not right to ask about it!!!! So if you feel up to it and feel it would not worsen your helath in anyway-then go for it.

If it would be to stressful or harmful in anyway ask for a doc's note.

Well, I have to admit they would still pay me fifteen dollars a day to be a juror and I could teach at night, so who knows maybe I want to be a juror? Well it might be better if I get my psychiatrist to write me a note to get out of jury duty, I got a feeling it could cause a problem at work.
