• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Junk Food (serious post)

I have like, a strong addiction to Junk Food. I know that most of us do, but I believe that for me it's a big problem.

I can't go three days without having a taste of pop. It's almost like, dare I say, I "need" it. Same goes for chips. Mostly chips than anything else. I can go for maximum a week before I need to eat or drink something like this.

And I dont have a little, I buy 2 litre bottles of pop and big bags of chips, and I eat it all at once. It's very hard for me to have only a little. I know drinking pop is bad. I have tried to drink a lot of water for substitute - and again, it works for a while but then there comes this overwhelming need to have it. It gets to a point where it's almost like that's all I think about.

luckily it doesnt affect my complexion or weight (I have no idea why). I dont take advantage of this though. I really want it to stop. I am a slave to these things and I am finding it hard to break free.

Any advice on how I can overcome this addiction to junk?

I would try and find something that could replace junk food, try writing, drawing or praying etc etc when you have cravings, it will be hard at first but it will get easier. We are all here to help post on here and we will do the best we can to help. Feel free to pm/email me if you want

For those of us with eating disorders...willpower is not enough!! I've tried and tried with my will to stop the bingeing and it doesnt work. sigh. Trust me, its a nightmare.

How about we make a deal? For the next week, whenever any of us feel like binging, purging, cutting, restricting or whatever, we post on here. Yeah? whatever it is you want to say, we won't judge you or think any differently. I know we can beat this:thumbsup:

Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry that you don't understand. It's obvious that you don't. ^_^

c.h.r.i.s.~ I'm sorry that you're going through this. :hug: :kiss: Could it possibly be that you're trying to "stuff" some thoughts or feelings? Many of us eat to "push down" what we don't want to deal with. Is there someone that you can talk to?

On the other hand, maybe you're just wanting something crunchy and salty.... in that case maybe you could try eating some raw carrots lightly salted or some rice cakes?

Those of us that deal with ED's know it's more than just willpower or want to, usually there is some underlying issue that we need to deal with to get to the bottom of the barrel.

I too had a problem with pop in particular... I was able to overcome it through a horrible experience with it. I was housesitting in a remote area, without means of transportation and the waterpipes froze. I spent an entire weekend drinking only pop. I realized how bad this stuff was making me feel, and I just was able to stop. I couldn't even look at pop for the longest time, now I'll have the occasional Coke. The memories of that weekend though still remind me why I shouldn't.
