Is it okay to be annoyed when another believer uses the phrase "thou shall not judge"? It annoys me. I believe that they are well meaning and that others should not be so hypocritical, but to me there is more than one judgment and more than one one type of judgment. For starters, there is godly judgment where some true believers even shall judge the angels. To me, I believe that Jesus was talking about hypocrisy in terms of passing ungodly judgment on someone else, meaning hypocrisy. Could it also be about the soul of someone who is not a believer or even judgement? A hypocrite doesn't always have to be an unbeliever who judges. It could be someone in the church who could be a hypocrite as well. Matthew 7 talks about godly and ungodly judgment and hypocrisy, even among the religious. Seeing clearly isn't just about opening one's physical eye, but I interpret it to be a spiritual eye as well. I also believe that the judgment could also be the Judgment of Christ towards those who pass ungodly judgement on one another.
(John 7:1-6)
"(1)“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."
