• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have a question about my daily devotional. I get my daily devotional from Joyce Meyer.com. I got this this morning:
One Thing Have I Asked of The Lord

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life....
—Psalm 27:4

If you will really study and meditate on this Scripture, comparing your own desires with it, you may find, as I did, that you are seeking many more things than the "one thing" to which the psalmist is referring. Imagine being simple enough to desire and seek after only one thing—that one thing being something as pure and simple as dwelling in God's presence.
I feel that it is saying that I should only desire to be with God. I do want to be with God, but I also have other "Wants" out of life that isn't necissarily a need. I thought that If I abided in him, and his words with me, that I could ask what I will and it shall be given. What about him giving us life to have it more abundantly? Please give me some insight. THANKS!

John 15:5-8
"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

I think you are referring to this passage about abiding. This does fit with the psalm from your devotion. Also with the following:

John 6:28-29
Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”
Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

If you truly believe and are seeking His presence -- abiding in Him -- and He abiding in you -- God will direct you & you will follow. Out of this belief will flow good works -- answers to prayer ... fruit ....

This doesn't mean you can ask for anything you want and expect to get it -- Jesus is a perfect example. Jesus was always seeking the Father's will-- desiring to do only the Father's will. Jesus was walking so closely that He only desired what the Father desired -- many miracles occurred thru Jesus. It did seem like anything Jesus asked was granted. There is one time though where Jesus asked and His prayer was not answered with a 'yes'.

In Gethsemane -- Matthew 26 where Jesus asks for this cup to be taken from Him -- still when He asks this He always says "Yet not as I will, but as You will.” This is true 'abiding' always asking for what you want but being open to the Father's will -- willing to accept His answer even when it's no. I think that this is the desire that goes with abiding -- that above all things you desire the Father's will -- you should be striving to ask for what lines up with His will and when it doesn't line up be willing to change what you are asking for. :)

I think you can see that if you do this the Father can really use you & bear much fruit -- look at Jesus!

Not an easy thing to do!

There is no joy that compares with doing the Father's will and bearing fruit -- I think this joy is the more abundant part.

Hope this makes some kind of sense,
Karen
