Thread: The Dying Light
Name: Jonas Zohar
Race: Half-breed. His father was Mist-cursed, and his mother a human of the Settlements.
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown. His appearance reflects a man in his late twenties or early thirties.
Height: 5' 9"
Weight: 185 pounds
Occupation: Lieutenant in the Mist-cursed army.
Appearance: At only five-foot-nine, Jonas isn't the tallest man, nor is he the most well-built. He's very athletic and strong, but in a more wiry kind of way, his body type reflecting that of a long-distance runner instead of a bulky warrior. His hair is blue-black and most often has the appearance of being dirty and greasy, though that's not the case. It's simply shiny...and very unkempt. Hangs almost to his shoulders in a shaggy cut. His face usually has a day's growth or more of whiskers, but he does shave occasionally when he has the chance. His eyes are a light shade of gray-blue and turn down at the edges, giving him the sad-eyed look of the Mist-cursed. His mouth has a downward turn to it as well. In the rare moments he does smile, however, his expression changes quiet drastically, and though his eyes still seem sad somehow, they also brighten to show genuine mirth.
Jonas' attire consists mostly of dark gray or black colors, though he does sport an occasional navy blue or mahogany red. His frock is made of a heavy wool, worn over a light gray shirt and black sleeveless waistcoat. A hood is sewn into the inside collar of his frock so that he can pull it over his head, which, in conjunction with the black kerchief he wears around his neck, can be used to block light from his face. His trousers are black or gray and are tucked into black leather leggings, which are pulled down over heavy boots. His weapon of choice is an intricately designed double-edged axe which he carries on his back, though he is proficient at wielding and throwing the two hatchets at his waist. He carries a dagger in his boot as a last resort, but rarely uses it.
Personality: Jonas isn't a very friendly person. He keeps mostly to himself, rarely speaks except to bark orders at his men, and is generally quite surly. He has a prejudice against the normal humans from the Settlements as he believes they aren't very intelligent. He doesn't hate them, nor does he wish to attack them. In fact, he strives for peace between the Mist-cursed and the Settlers. However, he doesn't hold their intelligence in very high regard. While he's usually content to remain out of the spotlight, if he does need to speak up, then he can be very outspoken, unafraid to come across rude or insulting. He speaks his mind. He also becomes defensive quickly and does tend to take innocent comments the wrong way. Consequently, there are many who don't like him, simply because of his abrasive manner. However, he does have a kind heart, shown when he tries his best to help others in need, will put his own well-being in jeopardy for the sake of his men, and doesn't kill unless he is forced to.
Background: Not much is known about Jonas. Not even among the Mist-cursed, the land which he makes his home. Only he and his father know the truth about his being half Mist-cursed and half regular human, and his father has not been in Jonas' life for a very long time. It is easily concealed among Mist-cursed, but not so easy among the Settlers. As a half-breed, the effects of the Mist aren't as strong. For example, he is mortal. He can be killed, unlike other Mist-cursed. But his regenerative and healing capabilities are unsurpassed except by the Mist-cursed themselves. What might take days or even weeks to heal on a normal human might take Jonas a matter of seconds or minutes, perhaps hours depending on the severity of the wound. He also doesn't age much at all. As no one really knows his age, he could very well be over a hundred years old and still maintains a youthful appearance. Since there are no other half-breeds to compare to, he doesn't know whether or not he will die of old age. That remains to be seen. His skin is also susceptible to light, burning him if it comes in contact with his skin. However, his tolerance is better than a normal Mist-cursed. He can be out during the dawn and dusk hours and can be around more firelight, though the majority of the day when the sun is shining bright, he still cannot go out.
Jonas did live among the regular humans for some years, traveling between the settlements in order to hide the fact he was a half-breed. Finally he settled down at the Bulwark, working the night shift to hide his heritage. There he worked for a number of years until it became clear that he would no longer be able to hide the fact he was half Mist-cursed...as he hadn't aged. He came across some information regarding the Mist-cursed that attacked the Bulwark, indicating that they might not represent the entire civilization and that there were Mist-cursed behind the Bulwark who desired peace. The regular humans, however, didn't believe him. So...he disappeared. He crossed the Bulwark and entered the land of the Mist, immersing himself in their life and rising in rank in the army to that of Lieutenant. In this position, he attempts to capture and imprison those Mist-cursed who attack the Bulwark and ravage the towns, carrying off young virgins. But he has so far fallen woefully short of that intention, only capturing a few here and there over the years, the others remaining ever-elusive. This does not discourage him, however, and he is determined to find a way to have peace between the two races once and for all.
