The whole Bible is an amazing Book but Jonah should have spoke to all of this week. I have been a weather watcher my whole life , as a farmer your life is controlled by it.
I am sure there are many that saw the miracle this week in Texas but there are many Jonah's out there that did not . There was a low spinning out west that brought 16 inches of rain in the same areas where the migrants where being processed . For the most part weather systems move from west to east , north to south and south to the north, that is the common pattern.
When the children got the right kind of attention this week the rains stopped. Here is what is even more amazing , that low moved southwest and faded away into Mexico . Many will spend time taking away from that miracle , if you are doing this ask yourself why. We only have to look at the most recent event with Harvey to know a storm can stay as long as God wants.
In the Book of Jonah we see a man that did not listen to God but the winds, waves and a fish did. God used those things to bring salvation to the mariners and bring Jonah back to Him.
Then the great fish did as God said and spit Jonah out. Jonah did what God said and people where saved and God did not destroy that great city.
Jonah 2:6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. 7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord : and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. 8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
This week if we give glory to what humans did we do not understand what God does in our Spirit and Who He uses for what purpose.
Jonah 3:10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
God saw people have a change of heart and correct wrongs this week...
Jonah gets mad that God repented , so what does God do and use in chapter 4 to show Jonah his anger has no place.
God uses alone in chapter 4 a gourd , worm ,sun and vehement east wind. God grew that gourd in 24 hours , that is Who we say we love.
We all have been Jonah and Job but we belong to a God that says this in Jonah 4:10 Then said the Lord , Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night: 11And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
If anyone of us thinks God does not care for for all peoples , all His creations even those cows in Nineveh and uses them for His purpose then we need to ask Him to help us not be Jonah...
As children of God we are to never want or wish bad things on anyone or thing God created. If you have a heart like Jonah wanting punishment and not God's grace and mercy you need a heart check up...We do not get to know anymore about Jonah unlike other humans God used in Scriptures. God is making a strong point , it is all about Him...
