  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know a teen who would like to become a Catholic. He was baptized at age 3 in the Roman Catholic Church. (But, he did not take Catechism classes and did not make his 1st communion.) He has attended the Catholic Church a few times and shows an interest in participating in Lent. He had asked me how to join the church. I wasn't sure how an adult (or teen) would take the Catechism classes (since I did them as a child).
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Your Sister-In-Christ,
Chrystal

Thanks so much, Steph! I am in poor health and do most of my "church" at home via the TV (EWTN station) so I'm not able to get out and ask others at church.
(What does RCIA stands for?)

He was baptized Catholic, then he is Catholic. Tell him to call the priest to discuss how he can come into full communion with the Church. It sounds as if all he needs is some instruction in order to be given holy communion. He can go to confession at any time seeing how he has a sense of reason to be able to examine his conscious and confess his sins. It sounds like all he needs is some instruction and to make his confession to come into the Church as a full member. He can then study afterwards to be confirmed.

Thank you so much, Shelb5! :) That is good information to know! I will let the teen become aware that he can attend confession.
Does anyone happen to know how a "shut-in" can participate in confession?

Call your parish and make them aware of your special needs. A priest will come to you and even bring you communion daily. Or at least he should.

I live in Detroit and there are a lot of Catholic Churches here. I will try calling one of them to see if they are willing to come over and allow me to participate in communion and confession.
Thanks again Shelb5!

Hmm. maybe it depends on where and stuff, but I've never heard it that easy Shelb, most everyone I've heard of has to go through the whole rcia process. hehe :)
If he is over 18 he can go to RCIA if he isn’t he will need some instruction or he can wait till he is 18. It all depends on his situation but if he is a baptized Catholic I see no reason he must wait to confess his sin once he is familiar with the sacrament. He can be given communion while he is in RCIA to study the faith and receive confirmation. I know Cannon law says that children should have at least 2 years of catechism before they can have first communion but I think different situations apply different methods.

Call the parish you live in. There is no reason why they shouldn’t come to you if you can not leave your home to hear your confession and bring you communion.
