Legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel died today whilst on holiday in South America. John Peel's influence on modern contemporary pop music in Britain (and beyond) is inestimable.

I didn't always agree with your taste but you took risks ...and looked after many bands who would have remained undiscovered..

I heard this on the radio today. I didn't get to hear him often, living in the US, but his influence on underground music is inestimable. When you consider the number of bands he shepherded from obscurity to...well, slightly less obscure in most cases, it's unbelievable. His taste was (nearly) flawless (I don't really understand his reggae obsession).

Anyway, sad sad thing for indie fans everywhere.
