I've read some of his books... several in fact. He is a solid Bible teacher. Unfortunately he has some leanings which taint some of his work. On the whole though I would recommend him.

I would also recommend

Bunyan - The Pilgrim's Progress

You can read Bunyan for free on the internet. Pilgrams Progress only cost $6 or so.
Not bad! Though for me there is still something special about a book in hand. To sit in the lazy-boy turning pages until the wee hours of the morning, is something that I'd rather not give up. I guess I'm old fashioned. Or mabey, as my wife says, just getting old :p

I listen to his radio program everyday, and have a bunch of his CD's in my car. I've bought his books and leaned on his commentaries from time to time. He is one of the greatest Bible teachers of our day for sure. I read his book "Safe in the arms of God" after my wife and I sufferred a miscarriage. It was a great comfort to us. I've also just given a copy of his book "Welcome to the Family" to a new Christian in our church, and I'm sure she will be blessed by it.

I just wanted to clarify since I said earlier that I do not agree with some of his theological stands. My advice on John and any other person... compare what they say against the scriptures and read everything with a discerning eye!

I listen to Pastor MaCarthur on the net, he has some really good stuff. Some of the stuff I disagree with as well, but it's very detailed theology which doesn't affect his presentation of the Gospel.

Here's a couple of links that have a list of writtings and works by authors I'd suggest: http://www.spurgeon.org/http://aomin.org/

Others: Lorraine Boettner, Charles Hodge, online sermons by Dr. Ian R. K. Paisley (sermonaudio.com), John F. Walvoord, C. I. Scofield (http://www.biblebelievers.com/scofield/)...I could go on.

That reminds me of a funny story... I bought Hodge's systematic theology. It's like at least 1/3 in latin!! Doh!

While there are some points of theology I disagree with John on I think he is one of the best teachers that has ever been. Very complete and very scholarly. I would not hesitate to recoment him to anyone. His CD set "Fundementals of Christianity" is a MUST HAVE! And a great gift for anyone.

Side note if you buy from John one time, he will send you books for free about every 2 months or so. They do ask for a dontation but will send whether or not you dontate or not. I admire this ministry very much!

John is one of the few teachers I recomend and listen to regularly.

Blessings
