  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Its true that John Kerry is catholic, but just because you claim you are something doesn't mean you really believe it.

I don't believe that Bill Clinton was really a Baptist, or at least not a practicing one.

so what he had his big bible, people like Bush actually have a real faith in something besides themselves

Heh... riiiiiight. It's not like he isn't catering to the religous right for votes or anything.

So his coversion witnessed by Billy Graham and others never really happened.

He never accepted Jesus as his saviour.

She he talks about it, so did Gore.

When Cliton, Kerry or Dean talk about faith it seems like a foriegn object to them.

I'm not saying that he isn't an evangelical. I'm saying that a large part of him going around and wearing a huge cross on his sleeve, his back, his front, and on his forehead, is a sop to the religious right.

Anyway, I'm going to sleep now, peace.

Actually, Kerry's been many things in his life. For a short time, he claimed to be Catholic. I heard on a conservative radio show that he's been probably 3 or 4 different denominations. I don't think he's really anything (except it would seem at this point, an adulterer:sigh: )

And in spite of what your hero Hillary Clinton (hehehe) says about her "solid Methodist roots" she's about as Christian as her husband. No matter how much I agree or disagree with Bush, at least he is not a hypocrite, and stands by what he says and believes.

Not every Catholic is going to be in lock-step with doctrines. I'm sure everyone has their own problems with at least one part of doctrine.

It is okay if we struggle to be faithful- but you can't be deliberately disobedient to the Church and certainly not lead others into disobedience through a position of power--
which is certainly going on if someone claims to be Catholic and yet seeks to make abortions available to anyone at anytime, for any reason- and is in a position to actually influence that outcome.

Didn't somebody just post a link to an explanation of Excommunication of those who profess pro-choice beleifs??

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Shannon

Kerry is what they call in politics a "good Catholic" precisely because he is a bad Catholic.

My opinions about Bush, he won’t win. I’d like him win but he won’t. He did what he had to do and he knows he risked his career to do it. I believe he is a sincere man and believes he did what he thinks God asked him to do. It will be sad to see the political office go back to being fully secular and spiritually empty again.
