It appears Fox News and others on the right jumped the gun on the spying claims.

John Durham says 'members of the media' may have 'misinterpreted' claims he made in a recent court filing

Durham said he's not to blame if members of the media "misinterpreted" details he included in a court filing last week.

The statement comes as Trump and right-wing outlets falsely claim that the Clinton campaign illegally spied on him.

The allegations rely on last week's Durham filing, which does not accuse anyone of breaking the law by spying or hacking.

While the details in the filing raised questions about the ethics of their conduct, Durham did not accuse Sussmann or Joffe of spying or hacking. And cybersecurity experts also say the details do not support the claim that the Clinton campaign unlawfully surveilled Trump.

I seems members of the media continue to do it:

"If third parties or members of the media have overstated, understated, or otherwise misinterpreted facts contained in the Government's Motion, that does not in any way undermine the valid reasons for the Government's inclusion of this information,"

...hence the numerous threads (here) claiming Clinton campaign was spying on Trump. It's interesting how quickly some echo the media.

"I am not responsible for Americans watching and believing Fox news."
Pretty sad when a special counsel feels he needs to debunk false media narratives. What ever happened to our libel/slander laws preventing disinformation? There seems to be little accountability to be found in America today.

Basically, the former president was furious that the CIA had been informed that Russians were calling Trump Tower and a midwestern company affiliated with Betsy DeVos. He had been "caught" by an attorney/cyber security consultant who had informed the CIA.

The consultant, Sussman, had more than 6 degrees of separation from the Clinton campaign...but inventive media sources can manufacture a whole bunch of hype out of the fact that another attorney in his firm worked for the Clinton campaign. These NY law firms can have hundreds of attorneys, you know.
