We have no way of knowing ... and I agree with Calvin on this one.In short, Calvin did not believe that the Shroud of Turin was the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ, not only because it was just one more relic, but simply because the Bible is apparently silent on the subject. In his opinion, the Shroud also seemed to be in direct contradiction with the gospels, especially John’s. In 1543, John Calvin, in his book Treatise on Relics, explained why the Shroud cannot be genuine
But the investigations on the shroud, though they might be able to date it, and say with reasonable certainty that it enwrapped a victim of crucifixion, cannot surely prove that the body it once contained was that of Jesus Christ. As for it being a miracle left for us by the Saviour, how do you know? He is not recorded as saying, anything like, "I will miraculously cause My burial shroud to be preserved, to help people believe on Me."It is genuine. Read the investigations on it. It CANNOT be reproduced by any modern technique! It is extremely unique. Nobody today, let alone in centuries past could have 'made' it.
The carbon dating they did on it in the 80's was wrong as it was taken from strips of the cloth that were sewn in in the middle ages to repair it after a fire!!

The negative and positive image from the shroud is unexplainable by science.

So many reasons that confirm it is not an ordinary image. It is, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Produced at His Resurrection. There can be no other reason.
It's the same 'proof' that encapsules most, if not all, items taken by faith. How do you prove the Apostle Paul, Saint Luke or historical figures like Julius Ceasar or Alexander the Great were real persons?
