Joel 1 and The Drought

[Drought of the Heart]

Joel chapter 1 is a confirmation of the call in “ Drought of the Heart.” God always shows the people what happens when we turn away from God. The drought in this Book sounds like the Dust Bowl in the 1930s.


Verse 10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. 19 O Lord , to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

I have always felt bad for animals on this planet of unkindness, our sins never just affected just us. From the Garden , Noah and to now, the creations of God mourn and suffer when we do not repent and turn back to God.

We live in a time we can not only see any drought around the world but anything going on anywhere. There is something the people of Scriptures where called to do in order for God to hear those cries.

Verse 14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord .

After Harvey God called His people to do this and I am sure many did. There where many more that went back to business as usual because we have forgot how God speaks to His people. They forgot then but knew why that drought came ,,,nothing has changed...

People came to believe Jesus was the Son of God at the Cross , when the Sun went dark , the earth shook and thunder spoke, because they believed in the God of Job 38...

Is it possible that is speaking about a spiritual drought, a drought of the heart as you would have it? Maybe a condition devout of knowledge of what is good (corn), without knowledge of God (new wine) and lacking any virtue or spiritual gift (oil) that keeps the lamp of the soul lit and fueling godly actions?

If Christ is the shepherd, can the beasts of the field be those whom He pastures and who, on account of lack of teachers (rivers of water), cry unto Him in want of someone to offer them a good word or deed as if pasture?
