  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When employers email me with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry with jobs and are like hey we are looking for someone with your education and experience and the job description says high school diploma -__-

I seriously want to be like uh are you trying to insult me? Career suicide but I keep resisting the urge to make a public statement on LinkedIn like don't contact me for high school diploma jobs telling me I fit what you are looking for it's honestly a direct insult.

And they wonder why millennials don't want to work for them.

Sometimes employers will say "high school diploma" for a minimum so they cast a wider net, not that they really want someone with only a high school education. It is entirely possible that they also want to include the possibility of the person with experience, but no college diploma.

I'm a Project Management Professional with 20 years of IT experience. I get lots of emails looking for someone with help desk experience for $12 an hour.

^This -__- it's obnoxious and spam like

Oh, these are unsolicited? Yeah, just delete them. I get them too, and phone calls from head hunters - you just ignore the ones that are like that or reply to "unsubscribe". They are not targeting you directly or purposely offending - they are just looking for opportunities, they likely have no idea you have a degree.

It's basically spam, but it is not personal spam.

I have a pharmacy technician certification so I get lots of pharmacy tech emails even though I've tried to show that I steer away from that field on LinkedIn and going for jobs that actually do match my education.

I just think it's a bit rediculous.

Job descriptions are mostly written in "what you really need to get the job", but the more experienced and educated in the field you are, the higher salary you can get.

Not when they are dead end jobs with no advancement which is what a pharmacy tech is. And no they will hire you with a bachelor's degree at 13.75/hr that's the wage I was given right out of college as a lab technician.
There was no way to advance so I obviously quit. I've never gotten a job where you actually got more money for having an education. I live in Arizona though. And that's what's being offered sorry but my degree cost about 100k so I'm not working for $3 above minimum wage at a job that doesn't make use of my degree. This wasn't done to baby boomers they only do it to millennials. It's already changing though cause a lot of employers are starting to get ignored.

If you already have a job, you can set your linkedin to a mode "not currently looking for a position" and your profile will not display in searches the personal agents do.

From my personal experience, linkedin is good only for showing it as your CV. Linkedin job positions offers never gave me a real job. Only a lost time, useless calls etc. I always found my job myself.

I'm looking for a job in my field one as a medical technologist and it's clearly stated not looking for pharmacy tech jobs. That doesn't help though I still get indeed emails and text messages spamming with high school diploma jobs. Even get phone calls regularly. Pharm tech is a high demanded field cause no one wants to do it and then only make about $11.50/hr lol

Indeed will do a lot of stuff on it's own. On the employer side it can match jobs based on the seeker's resume and automatically invite people to apply or express interest, so if you have pharmacy tech on your resume it will automatically send a message from the employer to you - the employer never looked at your resume or statement that you were not looking for a pharmacy job (even though the email might come from their name). Indeed will also send you jobs based on your search patterns and resume. I receive Indeed "offers" from employers for nurse tech jobs - simply because my resume lists "CPR/AED for medical professionals" as a skill - but I have absolutely no other medical skills or experience; it's the Indeed bot's fault.
