When did he say this? When did Dr. Fauci say anything close to a statement that if the virus made its way to the US it "would not be a problem"Fauci was saying it wasn't a problem.
Wow, you’re doing all the pot stirring tricks tonight, lovely innuendo, by-the-by!Who was Fauci's advisor? What part did the lab in Wuhan he was funding play?
So on Feb 17 2020,Top disease official: Risk of coronavirus in USA is 'minuscule'; skip mask and wash hands
Risk of coronavirus in U.S. is 'minuscule' NIH's Dr. Anthony Fauci says
I think it is very disappointing that several members of the Republican Party are going at Fauci.
O <—— the Venn diagram of ^^^ these folks and the people who want the “government to keep its hands off my Medicare!”Why is it that these people who yell and scream about their rights, are also the first ones yelling and screaming in the hospital for them to get healed and that the government hasn't done enough to protect them??
Yip, but you need to tailor your response as you go.16 begat millions. Productive.
Fauci couldn't have been more clear. He was very specific and careful with his words.Dr Fauci was clearly not saying that coronavirus wasn't a problem, just that it wasn't a problem for Americans right now. He clearly says, on multiple occasions, that this could change and coronavirus could become a global pandemic and it could be a very serious threat.
What a nation. Division over everything. Even a living commercial product. But of course those that want to discredit him (because that seems to the USA right wing stance right now) try to twist this all up into a bunch of nonsense.
To be fair...Jim Jorden’s schtick is to be the angry guy, who asks the tough questions!, then bloviates through attempts of the witness to answer. Makes great red meat for the base.Yip, but you need to tailor your response as you go.
"Horses for courses"
Fauci isn't a prophet or a clairvoyant. He does not have the capability to accurately predict the future.
All he can do is give advice given the data at hand, and that is all anyone can expect and should expect from him.
In NZ for example, when we have a community outbreak, the local city goes into alert 3 for 3 days and the whole country into alert 2. During those 3 days an assessment is done, tracking how the disease got to the infected person. If they can trace it to over the border. If they can then they let us go back to alert 1 and 2 and they manage it via isolation of just those people. If they can't trace it back to a point of origin then they stay at alert 2 and 3.
So we invariably shift up and down through the levels through restrictions and relaxation of restrictions, based on the situation of the day.
Your view that the scientists should recommend one approach which applies in the early days and lasts through to the eventual end of the pandemic is too strict, too rigid and wouldn't really be do-able.
That was wonderful!I wonder what people think about Maxine Waters screaming at him to “shut your mouth”?
I wonder what people think about Maxine Waters screaming at him to “shut your mouth”?
She said what people were thinking... remember when that was a praiseworthy trait?
Here is an exchange between Fauci and Jim Jordon.
I think it is very disappointing that several members of the Republican Party are going at Fauci. Right wing media and some Republican members seem to have an ongoing campaign to discredit Fauci and his messaging on the pandemic.
In this particular instance Jordon was yelling at Fauci. Maybe this was for political theatre, to instil emotions in his base (IDK).
It appeared that he was angry at Fauci for the impact of Covid-19 and the social distancing and lockdowns etc. Which is weird because the disease and the Government in response to the disease is causing these lockdowns, not Fauci.
Ultimately it is the Governors or the Federal government who make the decisions. The scientists only make recommendations. Fauci is an expert in infectious diseases, he isn't an economist, he isn't a psychologist and he isn't government, so his advice is with regards to the disease and not with regards to the economy.
So it really is inappropriate to question Fauci on when the restrictions are going to be removed. Only the governors or the Federal government can make that decision.
Better questions would be "When would Fauci recommend people no longer wear masks, when would Fauci recommend restrictions on mass gatherings be lifted?"
But I would expect that it is more complicated than specifying a date. Trump said it would be lifted by Easter 2020 which was obviously way off the mark. I think it would be more complicated than saying once the public is x% vaccinated as their might be strains that the vaccine doesn't work against.
But I do agree that the government should be formulating under what criteria should restrictions be lifted and Fauci should be one of many experts giving advice on that.
In NZ we have a 4 stage alert system which specified various levels of restrictions. Our government has been pretty clear on what moves us up and down the alert system. But from the outside looking in, USA seems to be a complete mess right now, disease is running rampant, thousands of people dying, I really think it is too early for USA to be arguing about when restrictions are to be lifted. USA folk should be working out how they can flatten their curve, working out why they haven't yet been able to do enough to get the infection rate down, NZ was at this stage in March/April 2020, we dealt with it and now we have very little restrictions internally. No masks, no gatherings limits.
Anyway, I see very little value in yelling at Fauci over restrictions. If only these Republican members who are attacking Fauci could instead get serious about the pandemic, lead by example to get the public to take measures to get the infection rates down, ask constructive and appropriate questions of the expert scientists, challenge the government on the measures taken and why these aren't leading to significant drops in the infection rates.
Now you know what people in the room were thinking?! That is amazing.
Who said anything about "in the room"?
She said what people were thinking... remember when that was a praiseworthy trait?
Why didn’t Fauci just answer the question?
Because he knows better than to play into Jordan’s game he likes to play of badgering the witness. Why didn’t Fauci just answer the question?
