I'm tired of people making a false moral equivalency between the Crusades of Catholicism and Jihad. One guy, had the brilliance of actually demonstrating the absurdity of making that kind of equivalency by actually showing the difference graphically.

Jesus said to love, and pray for your enemies.
Jihads and Crusades are equal in one sense...neither is of God.

this can be a helpful starting point, but it's also important to distinguish between each crusade and even each jihad. The definitions and ideas of both have evolved and grown over time - just compare the 1st-4th crusades. The first was Constantinople asked for help fighting Seljuqs (I think - might have been a different caliphate) and turned into taking Jerusalem from the Muslims (successfully), the second was just about taking Jerusalem (and failed miserably). The third ended in King Richard fully conceding control of Jerusalem to Saladin. And the fourth was Latins destroying Constantinople because of internal Byzantine politics about who was emperor.

Pavel, you must the tradition in Islam is to have this kind of uneven analysis that is to always be in favor of the Muslims in every instance. Like in prisoner exchanges, you would need to release a large number of Muslims to get even one non-Muslim freed in exchange. We saw that recently in Israel/Palestine with the freeing of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in 2011 in which to get him freed was conditioned upon the release of 1,027 (yes, that is the correct number) prisoners from Israeli jails, the vast majority of which were Palestinians or Arab-Israelis.

So I think the issue is less the facts on the ground and more about the narrative (swallowed and regurgitated subconsciously/thoughtlessly on the part of the Westerners, I'm sure) that it was wrong that 'we' (Christians; no Copts, Ethiopians, or OO Syrians ever fought in the Crusades, but some Armenians did as mercenaries) ever fought back in the first place. The Jesus of the world is all about love and letting maniacs crush your head in with boulders because you came from Italy to venerate holy sites, I guess. And Islam is just a misunderstood form of Episcopalianism in a totally liberating headscarf.

So there could be 5,000 Islamic jihads to 15 Christian ones, and the Christians will forever be chastised. What're you gonna do? You can't force zombies to come back to life and regain the power of rational thought once again.

No, my friend...it probably won't be until the sword is against their necks that they will realize. Libya will come to everyone eventually, unless there is a great change in Western attitudes towards their own cultures and past. God willing, we will have more holy and unfading crowns, but probably many others will die saying "I thought it was all about peace" instead of calling upon Christ, as is the right way to go. Lord have mercy.
