John 14:26 But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your rememberance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
How many times have you heard a statement similar to the following?" I think there is a verse in the Bible some where that says something about that. Well now! I'm not sure, but I think it goes something like this. mmmm I can't seem to remember.'' Is it possible we all at one time or other have spoken the same words?
Suppose that when Satan asked Jesus to turn the stones into bread, he answered," I think God said something about bread once."Or when the devil asked Christ to bow down and worship him, he said," I think the Bible says I'm not suppose to do that." Ridiculous? Of course!
Jesu knew exactly what the Word of God said. But suppose it had been you or me that Satan was tempting? Would we have known the Word of God well enough to overcome him?
How can we expect to live by God's Word if we don't know it?
John 14:26 records Christ telling the disciples that the Holy Spirit will help them to remember his words. The same is true for us. If we commit God's Word to memory, we will be better able to recall exactly the words we need at precisely the moment they are needed.
Thank you Lord for your Word, the Bible. Help me Father to call upon you in times of temptation and trial. In Jesus name
