I know Jesus taught against human tradition superceding Scripture, but is there anywhere in the Bible that Jesus taught or implied the importance of tradition or apostle interpretation of Scripture? I don't need Scripture examples against tradition as I have them. Thanks
The word "tradition" (Greek paradosis) means that which is handed down. The apostle Paul uses the word "tradition", which is interchangeable with "ordinance". The traditions of the apostles were the teachings of Christ directly to the apostles, which were then HANDED DOWN TO THE CHURCHES, and ultimately handed down to us through Scripture. They had nothing in common with the traditions of men. So there are indeed Divine traditions or teachings handed down by Christ, and they are all in Scripture.

When the RCC and OOC, for example, claim that they maintain certain apostolic traditions but fail to provide Scripture to back them up, then those are really the traditions of men. Icons and images within church buildings have absolutely no basis in New Testament truth.

I agree with Job8. It is man's traditions that Jesus spoke against. The problem is that man likes to take his tradtions and pass them off as if they came from God. Or mix his traditions with God's to pollute and destroy What God's original purpose was. When this happens the traditions become religion and they are simply man trying to take back power from God. We really need to know what God's purpose is so that we can recognize religious traditions for what they are.
