Hi Filo

Thank you for the response. Do you know if that estimate is generally accepted or is there controversy over the date? Also, what is your source (of information) on this matter. I would like to see what other valuable information might be available. In all the sources I looked at for the answer to my original question, I found nothing indicating the year of the Council.

Thanks again!

In my 20+ years of study I have not seen any other serious proposal. Basically this view looks at the incription at Corinth of Gallio toward the end of Paul's second missionary trip (Acts 18:12-17); Gallio was in office about AD 50-51. From Josephus we learn that the killing of James, son of Zebedee, by Herod (Acts 12:1-2) occurred in AD 44, and the famine in Jerusalem (Acts 11:27-30) was at AD 46. Thus, the earliest time for the Council is 46 and the latest is 51. But if we note that Paul attended the Council, then his second missionary trip began at the conclusion of the Council, and his second journey had to be completed before 51, at the very latest.

In light of all this, then the dating of the Council is well accepted as AD 49.
