  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jer 8:8 says 'How can you say, 'We are wise because we have the law of the Lord,', when your teachers have twisted it so badly.' (NLT)

What is this referring to? Does it refer to prophecies of Jesus? The 'additions' to God's law by religious authorities? Warning of other sorts of errors (additions/deletions) to God's word?

And how do we know that there haven't been changes made in our modern Bible to what was taught 2000 years ago?

I think that this passage is talking about the teachers of that time. As we can see, many of the Pharisees of the New Testament were off base on many things because of pride and glory etc. I believe that this passage is talking about people who wrote the laws that were found in Scripture and were changing them to fit their needs better. As far as the changes go there are a few takes on that. If you are a Protestant, you have the Bible with 66 books. If you are a Catholic you have a Bible with more books than that. The reason for the fewer books in the Protestant Bible is because they often times had chronological inaccuracies and other problems like that. What is in the Protestant Bible now (in my opinion) is what God has ordained to be there. Why would God have Christians follow His Word if it was wrong? Hope that helps.
