Thread: A Soul for a Secret

Name: Jamie Crosse
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Height: 5’8’’
Weight: 142
Occupation: Shepherd

Appearance: Jamie is long and slim, but not bony, which usually makes him out to be taller than he actually is. His face, neck, and arms are a bit tanned from the sun, but the rest of him is quite fair. He has a boyish charm to him with dark green eyes and shabby blonde hair, lightened by the sun. While he tends to look unkempt and worn, even with his clothes, it has only to do with his general lack of needing to groom not because he purposely tries to be that way.

Jamie is always seen wearing sandals, unless there’s a lot of snow or it’s really cold, and a hat that resembles somewhat of a turban his fellow herdsmen adorn. Otherwise his clothes consist of long breeches and loose fitting tunics, in whatever way they come. All-in-all he strives more for comfort than fashion.

Personality: Jamie is a passive person, to put it simply. He’s reserved and shy, not liking to be in the spotlight or to draw much attention. He’s polite with a wide range of manners, and will often go out of his way in order to avoid offending anyone. Though if that does happen, he’s quick to humble himself. Spirituality is a major part of his inner life, and although he doesn’t talk about it that much, he’s not afraid to openly show it, and will even stick to his routine of praying every single night, bare foot on his mat, no matter where he is or who he’s with. He’s more meek than confident, and if he becomes embarrassed or uncomfortable, he’ll avert his gaze and won’t make eye contact. Meat isn’t part of his menu, nor any other drink besides water, as he’ll only eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, or oats, claiming good things must be put into his body. On top of that though, he’s not too athletic, and enjoys more leisure activities like playing his music or wood carving. Rarely does he complain or make excuses; if it’s asked of him, he’ll do it.

Background: Jamie was born in a middle class home, son of a herdsman, with five older brothers. His mother had died during the winter after his birth from sickness as she was frail and still weak from pregnancy, leaving him the last of the Crosse children. With no mother to nurture them, his father took it on himself to push his sons into the rickety ways of manhood, a path Jamie faltered on in the man’s eyes.

While his brothers rolled in the mud, clambered after women, became craftsmen, and raiders, and sailors, Jamie preferred to keep to himself and the sheep with his music. Consequently he was often picked on by his brothers, and hounded by his father, but he paid them no mind, choosing to quiet himself with the outside world of nature in his father’s fields. Which could also be the reason why his father sent him out to shepherd the sheep at such a young age, marking him already as a failure, and wanting him to take on some kind of life. Or it was a way to get the boy out of his hair, and pray he made something of himself out there. Whatever the reason, Jamie enjoyed it and had made no future plans of changing that life.

Until recently when his one older brother, Galton, decided to head to the city in search of a career, their father insisted Jamie go with so he could also strive to do something greater.
