Dr. James Hansen has been quoted on Christian Forums in connection with global warming/climate change. What we have heard could be highly misleading. James Hansen was NASA employee from 1972 to 2013, forty-one years. What did James Hansen really say about climate change?

The greenhouse effect has been detected, and it is changing our climate now.”
--James Hansen before a committe of the US Senate in 1988.

<< Hansen said what he really wishes happened is “that the warning be heeded and actions be taken.” >>

<< It was then and there that Hansen went out on a limb and proclaimed that global warming was already here. >>

<< Hansen, still at Columbia University, has been arrested five times for environmental protests. >>

James Hansen in interview:

<< So it doesn't warm up quickly, but once we warm it up, it doesn't cool off quickly either, so if we start the disintegration process on the large ice sheets, then you may pass a point at which you just can't stop it. >>

The sources I quotes in the OP are Columbia University; US News & World Report; the Associated Press; the Canadian Broadcasting Company; and the New Yorker.

This is obvious from the links in my notes but when I put it up on CF, only the headline shows and the source is obscured.

I just heard a fascinating podcast interview with Naomi Oreskes (professor of the History of Science at Harvard) describing how the denialism of a. the link between 2nd-hand tobacco smoke and cancer, b. ozone depletion, and now c. climate change, how the same few people (including scientists) are involved in all three, and how it's not really about the science, it's a political concern to do with government interference and constraints on freedom. Well worth a listen.
