  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What if that christian ask you that the bible contains Jabez prayer so why can't i use it every single day?

Lk 11,1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

Lk 11,2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Yeah I know, our prayer should be modelled after the Lord's prayer but you still have not answered my question yet.

What I meant to say was that if we have so many prayers in the Bible (Psalms for example) why should one make "such a fuss" about this Jabez-prayer; do people think it works like "magic" if they pray this specific prayer? What's the reason/motive to pray just this prayer?
Ask questions and show them that we should pray according to the will of God and not according to our own wishes.

Haven't read all the posts on this yet, however my feeling on this kind of theology is that it is looking for a fulfillment on earth of promises that will be fulfilled in heaven. Same goes for prosperity gospel, healing ministries (not all) and other teachings like this. I think this is a common theme of them. They take promises that are meant for heaven as being for now.

I think I'd rather store up treasure in heaven myself! You know the old saying "be careful what you wish for? It just might come true!"? I think that applies here pretty well.

I have the book Prayer of Jabez, and I thought it was interesting, but even then I understood that it was a dangerouse thing to let some obscure verse in the bible dominate your theology. I thought it was odd that the author seemed to think he "found" some magic prayer buried in the bible.

It is interesting that that little "story" was buried in the geneology history. But it's stretching a bit to think that God put it there like a "Where's Waldo" book for us to find and use to get what we want in life!

I agree - call it "overrealized eschatology" or simply: "heresy" :p

I think this sentence should win an award of some sort.
