Yo, turn me up in my microphone so I can Bless God's people
You know Kirk Franklin and Toby Mac on this gospel train
On a J train ain't no other thing
Now lift up your hands and tell me you wanna ride baby! Babaa!

I got a ticket, I got a ticket
I got a ticket to ride
I gotta a ticket to ride to the other side
I got a ticket, I got a ticket
I got a ticket to ride

Ride, ride wanna ride on the J-Train
On the J-Train, wanna ride on the J-Train
Ride, ride wanna ride on the J-Train
On the J-Train, wanna ride on the J-Train

Sit back, relax put on your travelin' gear
No need to doubt so put aside your fear
Destination, out of this atmosphere
It's the J-Train baby, we depart from right here
No lines to fight no ticket to price
I'm rollin' first class 'cause I've seen the light
Try as you may but your money can't buy
A ticket on the J-Line to the other side

I got a ticket, I got a ticket
I got a ticket to ride
I got a ticket, I got a ticket
I got a ticket to ride
I gotta a ticket to ride to the other side

Ride, ride wanna ride on the J-Train
On the J-Train, wanna ride on the J-Train
Ride, ride wanna ride on the J-Train
On the J-Train, wanna ride on the J-Train

Now I missed the Train more than once in my life
Til' the good conductor heard my Momma's cry
Hades to Glory in the blink of an eye
Hear me now, hear me now while I testify
Heard the whistle blow I felt a chill to the bone
All aboard is what I heard it I was headed for home
Had a reclinable seat but I just had to stand
Up on the, "J" all the way to the promise land

I got a ticket, I got a ticket
I got a ticket to ride
I got a ticket, I got a ticket
I got a ticket to ride
I gotta a ticket to ride to the other side

Ride, ride wanna ride on the J-Train
On the J-Train, wanna ride on the J-Train
Ride, ride wanna ride on the J-Train
On the J-Train, wanna ride on the J-Train
Do you wanna ride say

To the other side say
If you wanna ride say
Get on the freak-line
Do you wanna ride say
To the other side say
All the people wanna ride say
Uh there's a break down right here
I got a ticket, I got a ticket
I got a ticket(if you wanna ride, let me hear you)
I got a, I got a
I got a, I got a
I got a, I got a
If you wanna ride the train now
Clap your hands like this
Clap your hands like that
'Cause what God told me next
For the two-zero-zero-two I thought you knew

Amen brother. Jesus is the conductor of the J-Train. Have not heard this one before, but it is catchy and good.

This is the train analogy from the song, connected to scripture. :)

The ticket = Faith in Jesus (John 3:16-18).
The ride (John 14:1-31) = Salvation to Heaven after our death on earth.
Price of admission on the train (Ephesians 1:7) = Free for us Christians, bought through the blood of Jesus on the cross.

Love this song! I listened to DC Talk from their first album, so it was not a surprise when I liked TobyMac's solo projects. Still listen to his music these days. :)
I bought the very first DC Talk album the first year it was released. I am praising the Lord that I can still remember the first time I saw dc Talk in concert was in 1986 when they were an opening act for DeGarmo & Key. I love all the albums made by dc Talk and all the albums tobymac has recorded.

Was your first DC Talk album on CD, tape or record? CDs were introduced to the public in 1982, so the tech was relatively new in 1986. :)

Also, praise the Lord for DC Talk as being an opening act for DeGarmo & Key, another good band from the 1980s. TobyMac was my childhood in the 2000s (TobyMac - Made To Love and TobyMac - Lose My Soul), while DeGarmo & Key were your younger days. Seems that TobyMac overlapped both the older generation, and the modern generation, a musical sweet spot.

Back in the 80s, I was buying cassette tapes. Then, I bought my first CD in 1988.

Yeah, CDs became popular around 1990, so 1988 was a year when CDs were getting adopted. :) Cassettes are awesome, as they can be used to store computer software apparently, at least back in the 1980s (unpractical, but fun). Wish I had a Datasette, but that stuff is expensive and probably collectible.

Mmm, a nice graph here:

I still have my first DC Talk CD (which was their first album). Friends had cassettes of the same group, so I borrowed those at the time. I've just recently filled in the gaps between the first album and others that I eventually got on CD, like Supernatural and Jesus Freak. I couldn't believe it took me so long to buy Nu Thang, since it's so great! :) (I also managed to snag the Free At Last movie a couple years ago when I was getting Free at Last for myself. Very cool!)

That is pretty awesome. Be sure to burn the CD onto your computer's hard drive or a USB drive, so that if you ever lose the CD or the disc gets damaged, you can still keep the album. :) Is Free At Last a good movie?

I back up every CD I get, especially since it means I can have a huge library on my phone and take it with me. I liked the Free At Last movie myself, not sure what others would think. Documentary, behind the scenes, etc. Cool, in my books! :)

Amen, sister in Christ. It is great that you back up your CDs. Alright, let me check if my library carries Free At Last, cos I can rent DVDs for free from there and watch movies, as the library is only a 60-second walk from my place.

Edit: Yep, I can place a hold. I will set it for September 1, as I have to finish up Star Trek: DS9, season 7 first.

I'm on DS9 Season 2. Going slowly so far and enjoying the journey! I knew I liked the main group of characters, but didn't really get to follow the show through every season as it aired. It's been worth the wait! :)

Congratulations for starting up on DS9. There is an episode of DS9 set in September 2024 (Past Tense, DS9 S3E11-12, aired January 1995), so you might be able to watch that episode in September 2024. The whole series is good, and helps one understand interpersonal relationships and reading others. In the second half of the series, the crew gets out more to explore the stars, but the first half is more about exploring humanity, society and culture. I like both halves equally.

Sometimes I watch episodes out of order for DS9, Voyager, and TNG. If we want an almost-random Trek episode, we might find a list of best episodes, then choose one from there. I do the full watch-throughs on my own, since the kiddos don't necessarily want to experience the series that way (especially since there are so many seven-season shows). I particularly like time-travel episodes, so I've seen the Bell Riots episodes and also the Voyager crew going back to 1996. :)

Going back to the topic of TobyMac music, I discovered that the song Extreme Days was written for a movie. News to me! I thought the soundtrack looked like it's probably better than the movie, though, so I found it on Discogs and it's on the way to me now!

You might want to rewatch the Bell Riot episodes in September 2024, and I do remember the Voyager Crew going back to 1996. Funny thing, when I watched the Voyager one, 1996 was only 18-19 years ago. Also, when watching the Bell Riots episode in 2014 or 2015, 2024 was 9-10 years away. Now, 1996 is almost 30 years ago, and September 2024 is only 8 days away. There are lists of the best episodes online, thankfully.

Do you guys miss the era of TV, where there were 20+ episodes in a season, and 5-10 seasons of a show? Nowadays, it seems there are only 4 or 5 seasons, and only ~8 episodes per show. That changed some time in the late-2010s with the advent of streaming services. :(

It is cool that TobyMac wrote a song for a movie, and it does seem like sometimes soundtracks can be better than movies, or vice versa, where movies are better than soundtracks. Just checked the lyrics, and the lyrics are relevant for 2024, as we truly are living in extreme days, though the song is a little too metal for my tastes. But, the song is innovative for combining hard rock/metal with rap.
