Just about all I've been doing is cutting back on soda from 3 cans a day to 2.
Hello Neostar. I hope it all goes well for you. Perhaps it would be best to cut soda out altogether. It's generally recognized as being one of the worst things you can drink. The sugar content of regular soda is off the scale, diet soda has carcinogenic additives and both varieties are strongly acidic, bad for your teeth and your stomach. A toxic, addictive concoction. Better choices could include types of tea, water, various types of milk, soya milk, oat milk, almond milk. Sugary drinks and snacks are addictive, but once you've broken the cycle of addiction you won't miss them. God Bless You

Perhaps. I'm actually kind of glad that I won't be able to drink diet soda for a year because it might make me not miss diet soda. After not drinking diet soda for a year I probably won't miss it and will drink other alternatives. That or I'll only drink a can a day or every once in a while. You know have it controlled.

They don't call it skinny brain. It's this technique where you're supposed to meditate over your food or something like that I don't really understand it but I pretty much straight up told them I'm nit doing it. I'll watch what I'm eating and I'll follow their diet, not drink during meals and follow everything they tell me to do but I don't understand mindfulness nor did it EVER work for me.

Anyway my appointment is tomorrow morning I'll let you all know how it went and what they said.

That's my term as is the explanation. ;-)

I don't know anyone who does that. It sounds very woo. But as I said, weight loss is a battle with the mind. When you align it properly the body will follow.

I'll watch what I'm eating and I'll follow their diet, not drink during meals and follow everything they tell me to do but I don't understand mindfulness nor did it EVER work for me.

What have you tried? At the core it's simply attentiveness. Journaling is a mindfulness practice. Posting a daily update for accountability is as well. So are gratitude practices.

Anyway my appointment is tomorrow morning I'll let you all know how it went and what they said.

Good luck with your appointment and may the Lord be with you and your physician throughout.

They were completely understanding. The goal is to have my surgery sometime in mid-late November. I have to see the nutritionist and see bariatrics one more time on October 30th onnthat day im assuming theyre going to officially schedule my surgery. I also have a psych evaluation on October 2nd. The cardiologist cleared me for surgery so everything is in place except for the psych evaluation that's the only thing I have left to do and then they can operate on me. Will keep you guys updated.

I'm EXTREMELY worried about the psych evaluation coming up because I HAVE to pass it to get my surgery before winter to make my mom and doctor happy. But I don't know what questions he's going to be asking me or the correct answers to them. I'm totally going to screw this up and have my doctor yell at me and have to be obese my entire life aren't I? *sigh*

No. Please do not get into a self defeat mindset. You’ll do just fine in the evaluation.

Thank you. Still I wish I knew what questions he'll be asking but that's the point of the evaluation it's to make sure that I'm psychologically ready for the surgery. It probably doesn't help that I have mental problems in the first place but I'm sure that won't count against me. He's probably going to make sure that I know what the surgery entails and that I need to make lifestyle changes. I can probably bring up that I've been exercising and that I want to get the surgery for my health and to lose 150-200 lbs at least. You know set realistic goals for myself. If I do fail they did mention that it doesn't mean that I can't have the surgery and that they would work on the problems the psychologist found with me. It's just that that's going to take time and my mom doesn't want to drive to saranac in the winter. So November is the last chance she has to not have to drive in a major blizzard or something. Assuming winter starts in Janurary this year like it did the last 2-3 years in a row.

It’s my understanding that they are just measuring your commitment to a new way of looking at food and what are the root issues of why someone overeats. Of course they may caution you as to what triggers you may have due to your issues. Once you’ve come this far it’s pretty much a given that you will get your surgery.

Perhaps. I'm actually not sure and will have to see when the time comes. It's only in three days so it's not long of a wait.

Thank you. I completed the evaluation. She didn't tell me if I passed or failed but she did mention a few things. 1. I didn't know a lot about the surgery and couldn't remember the side effects so I should talk to my doctor before the surgery and get a refresher. I looked them up on chatgpt after the interview and was reminded that my doctor did talk about them but it was over six months ago and I forgot. 2. She did mention that my wife and I should be working on "her giving me everything I wanted" before I have my surgery and not afterwards like I mentioned. She also mentioned that I cannot have diet soda at all or anything carbonated although my nutritionist said it would be ok after my stomach heals. Umm what else. It was an almost hour long interview but we got a lot done. She had a lot of questions. I'll call my bariatric team on Friday and ask them if they got the results in yet. If not I'll ask Monday. Because I'm really curious on what she's going to say I need to work on. I know she's probably going to recommend I sew my nutritionist again before my surgery which they're already doing. I might have to see my surgeon too to get my questions answered and for him to personally go over the surgery with me and what he's going to do. But, all in all I think it mostly went well.

Sounds like everything went super smooth!

Hopefully! I'm really nervous. I'll hopefully know tomorrow. If not I'll likely know by next Wednesday hopefully. Shouldn't take them more than a week to get the results. Or absolute worst case scenario they tell me I have to wait until my appointment on the 30th to find out. But, I doubt they'll do that to me. Especially if I call and ask for the results beforehand.

I looked up what could disqualify a person from bariatric surgery though and psychosis within the last year was on the list. It would explain why she asked me 3-4 times yesterday when my last psychotic episode was. I told her the truth that it was in 2018. I told her I remember what year it was because Barbara Bush died when I was in the hospital for it. So it was April of 2018.

She asked what brought on that episode and I said I think it was because I hadn't found Latuda yet. Once I found Latuda my psychotic symptoms pretty much went away and just my manic symptoms exist now. I used to regularly get both manic and psychotic episodes but once I started taking latuda I stopped getting psychotic episodes for the most part. It does a great job at handling those symptoms. She didn't say much but she understood I guess and was probably glad that latuda works so well for me.

Speaking of latuda I wanted to mention. Part of what makes the med work is to take it with food. Like all anti psychotics it puts me to sleep so I take it with a bedtime snack so that it only knocks me out before bed. After my surgery taking a medicine that needs 350 calories to work is going to be challenging especially within the first few weeks after surgery when I can my stomach is only so big to handle so many calories and liquids. My bariatric team is aware of the challenge though and are going to work on it. My nutritionist said maybe I could take a bariatric shake and doctor it up. Especially when I'll be on them for the first few weeks of surgery. Dunno I'll have to see how it'll work out. At least we thought of letting them know.

So I called this afternoon and they got the results back apparently she didn't find anything too concerning and they're not delaying the surgery. I will know more on the 30th but for now I'm being told that everything she found was totally normal and not concerning. I'm guessing that she just addressed concerns that I didn't know enough about the surgery and that they should go over everything again. I'm assuming. I'll know more in 3 weeks.

3 days until I find out the date of my surgery and we discuss the results of my psych eval. I have to admit I'm nervous as all getout. I really don't want to have the surgery but I know I have to. If I want to live an extra 10 years and I do, I have to get the surgery. So... yeah...

I've been talking on a bariatric surgery forum and they've been guiding me through getting my surgery done. They mentioned a bunch of stuff that I want to ask when I see the nurse on Wednesday. I'll let you guys know what the nurse says and how the appointment goes. But... so far I'm just a whole mess of emotions. I'm forcing one foot in front of the other right now.

I think my biggest problem with the surgery is that I don't really want to stop eating all of the foods that I enjoy. Many of the foods I will have to stop eating entirely because my new stomach won't be able to handle them. I'm going to bring that up wednesday.

I just got home from the bariatric clinic/nutritionist. The nutritionist didn't clear me for surgery and is going to follow up with me again in a month. Turns out she found out that I haven't been practicing mindful eating and since that can apparently completely reverse the effects of the surgery she's given me homework to practice that. I don't even understand mindfulness and it's NEVER worked for me so I guess I can't get the surgery and I have to try to lose 150 pounds on my own...
